Song Released: 2003
Sing For The Moment Lyrics
These ideas are nightmares for white parents
Whose worst fear is a child with dyed hair and who likes earrings
Like whatever they say has no bearing
Its so scary in a house that allows no swearing
You see him walking around with...

#1 top rated interpretation:You guys all have this wrong, which really upsets me because this is one of his best songs. In short, it's basically about how music is really the only escape for humanity and the only thing that has the power to save it.
Now if you wanna get very definitive, this song has many, many layers and goes into a lot of subjects. In the first verse he is talking a bit about himself when he was younger...When I was younger and listened to this song I almost felt as if he was talking about me. His life is filled with so much bullshit, at his house, his school, he gets abused everywhere he turns, so he listens to music to escape and it eventually teaches him how to grow a backbone and push people back.
In the second verse he talks about how entertainment is slowly becoming corrupt and damaging the consumers, and he also talks about how people interpret his music. Many people can relate to his lyrics, and hes like "....shit" because he ususally believes that he's alone and theres no one else that shres his pain or his beliefs when in reality a lot of people can. He also talks about how some people interpretit wrongly and think of him as this terrible person trying to corrupt peoples minds, when in reality, hes the only voice of truth.
The third verse beginning kind of continuing where the second verse ended but then eventually turns to how he makes his music for people going through rough times and how people in those situations use music as their therapy. Im one of those people. When he gets into the part about kids idolising their rappers and crying at night wishing theyd die till they throw on a rap record and they sit and they vibe....damn..I was the exact person he talks about.... -

This song is about the influence Eminem's songs have on his listeners and how they have to be accountable for their own actions.
These ideas are nightmares to white parents
Whose worst fear is a child with dyed hair and who likes earrings
Like whatever they say has no bearing
It's so scary in a house that allows no swearing
To see him walking around with his headphones blaring
Alone in his own zone, cold and he don't care
He's a problem child, what bothers him all comes out
When he talks about his fuckin' dad walkin' out
Cause he hates him so bad that he blocks him out
If he ever saw him again, he'd probably knock him out
His thoughts are whacked, he's mad so he's talkin' back
Talkin' black, brainwashed from rock and rap
He sags his pants, do rags and a stocking cap
His stepfather hit him so he socked him back
And broke his nose, this house is a broken home
There's no control, he just let's his emotions go
->This is about Eminem's fans. Originally, they were good kids, But now they show hardcore hip-hop behavior like cussing and violent tendencies. Eminem inspired them to forsake the inhibitions which traditionally held their emotions in check.
Entertainment is changing, intertwining' with gangsters
In the land of the killers, a sinner's mind is a sanctum
Holy or unholy, only have one homie
Only this gun, lonely, 'cause don't anyone know me
But everybody just feels like they can relate
I guess words are a motherfucker, they can be great
Or they can degrade, or even worse, they can teach hate
It's like these kids hang on every single statement we make
Like they worship us, plus all the stores ship us platinum
Now how the fuck did this metamorphosis happen?
From standin' on corners and porches just rappin'
To havin' a fortune, no more kissin' ass
But then these critics crucify you, journalists try to burn you
Fans turn on you, attorneys all want a turn at you
To get their hands on every dime you have
They want you to lose your mind every time you mad
So they can try to make you out to look like a loose canon
Any dispute, won't hesitate to produce handguns
That's why these prosecutors wanna convict me
Strictly just to get me off of these streets quickly
But all their kids been listenin' to me religiously
So I'm signing CD's while police fingerprint me
They're for the judges daughter, but his grudge is against me
If I'm such a fuckin' menace, this shit doesn't make sense b
It's all political, if my music is literal then I'm a criminal
How the fuck can I raise a little girl?
I couldn't, I wouldn't be fit to
You're full of shit too, Guerrera, that was a fist that hit you
->This verse is about how American music is getting worse. He also acknowledges the idol-like influence he has over many listeners who analyze every word to come out of their mouths. Then he talks about his rise to fame. He was just a street rapper, and now he's famous and rich. But he's so rich and influential, the media wants him to misbehave just so they can report it and make profit. He also brings up issues he’s had with the law and ultimately states that if he were truly as bad as people make him out to be then he would have been able to successfully raise a daughter, which he has done.
They say music can alter moods and talk to you
Well can it load a gun up for you and cock it too?
Well if it can, then the next time you assault a dude
Just tell the judge it was my fault, and I'll get sued
See what these kids do, is hear about us totin' pistols
And they want to get one, 'cus they think the shit's cool
Not knowin' we're really just protectin' ourselves
We entertainers, of course the shit's affecting ourselves
You ignoramus but music is reflection of self
We just explain it, and then we get our checks in the mail
It's fucked up ain't it, how we can come from practically nothin'
To bein' able to have any fuckin' thing that we wanted
That's why we sing for these kids that don't have a thing
Except for a dream and a fuckin' rap magazine
Who post pinup pictures on their walls all day long
Idolize they favorite rappers and know all they songs
Or for anyone who's ever been through shit in they lives
'Til they sit and they cry at night, wishing they die
'Til they throw on a rap record, and they sit and they vibe
We're nothing to you, but we're the fuckin' shit in their eyes
That's why we seize the moment, and try to freeze it and own it
Squeeze it and hold it, 'cause we consider these minutes golden
And maybe they'll admit it when we're gone
Just let our spirits live on, through our lyrics that you hear in our songs
-> This verse is about how the listeners should still be accountable for their actions. Music can make you feel a certain way, but it cannot do physical actions like shooting someone with a gun. He understands that people are influenced by these lyrics, that his rags to riches story has a certain appeal, but his listeners should still be accountable for their actions.
This is a great song. -
I think this is about eminem growing up and he tells us his problems in his life.
-
This song has a lot of layers and meanings, but to me the main one is that music can keep people dtrong through hard times and that he speaks the truth in his lyrics and he can relate to the kids having a rough time. This song inspired me and motivated me through some hard times and I still like to listen to it if I'm having a shitty day
-
This song is him venting about how every time he opens his month someone attacks him for it. He's explaining that his music isn't the reason kids are being bad and that people are doing crazy stuff. Eminem is just an artist and he wants people to know that his lyrics are harmless if you parent properly
-
What i think this is is somewhat venting about how his dad was so terrible, and how it may have screwed him up, and some people may say they know what he goes through, but they don't.
Also it talks about the hardships you feel with being a star and if the public doesn't like you, they will do anything to shut you up -
I think this song is about the hardships of life.
