Flyleaf: Cassie Meaning
Cassie Lyrics
To save her life or take it
The answer "No" to avoid death
The answer "Yes" would make it
Make it
"Do you believe in God?"
Written on the bullet
Say "Yes" to pull the trigger
"Do you believe in God?"
Written...

Kamokittie, not to be rude, but Cassie was not shot twice. I read the book written by her friends an family, and she was shot ONCE after being asked if she believed in God.
The miraculous thing about Cassie was that before her family moved and she began attending Columbine, she was into a lot of bad things. Drugs, hanging out with the wrong people. etc. Her family moved her from her old town and that is when she started Columbine. She had recently made a good friend and became a Christian shortly before the shootings.
Cassie is a real inspiration to everyone- to say YES that she believed in God knowing she was going to die for it was corageous and she is a true martyr. For her to only have been a Christian for a short period in her life, I know that God made a huge impression on her for her to die or Him. -

The song relates to Cassie of the Columbine shooting. She was shot twice after the shooter asked her "do you believe in God"
The line "All heads are bowed in silence, to remember her last sentence" relates to her family, and how she meant so much to them.
"She answered him knowing what would happen" means that she believed in God, and she wasn't going to lie, even if it meant taking her life in the process. She stood up for what she believed in, and we can all learn from that -
From reading the other comments, I'm not gonna say it's not about the shooting, cause obviously it is. I'm just going to put what it made me think when I first heard the song. Well, the first time I heard it I was younger and I couldn't figure it out...but now I finally have an answer.
The world we live in can be a cruel place to christians. People will make fun of, talk about, or in this case, shoot someone just because they believe in God. God gave us all free will, but some people uses that free will in the wrong way. It's sad that we have to deal with stuff like this, but we can't undo the past, we can only hope for a better future. Once we die and go to heaven, it's for sure that you will have that better future.
Let me know what you think of my answer.
(btw..this is my first time posting on this site) -
the song? it's about a girl in that shooting duh when eric harris went into the library after shooting up the place eric harris herd someone praying allowed to her self. he recognized the voice went over their knelt down and asked her "do you believe in god? and she said "yes" and he shot her, she knew he was going to do it, but she stood up for what she believes in, and idk who wouldn't respect what she did? i do? do you?

Cassie was just one of the devastatingly many victims in the high school massacre of 1999, and Flyleaf used her for there song.Official reports state that Harris then walked over to the table across from the lower computer row, slapped the top twice with his hand, knelt down, and said "peek-a-boo" before shooting Cassie Bernall in the head. The recoil from the weapon hit his face, breaking his nose. Although it is popularly believed that Bernall was the individual who was asked "Do you believe in God?", it is debated if the exchange actually happened with Klebold and surviving student Valeen Schnurr.

In the accoustic version, why does she say "Say yes to pull the trigger/and my sister Cassie pulled it"?
Sidenote: interesting how the lyrics are all slightly different in the accoustic version of the songs.... -
I think this is an awesome song. It doesn't matter however Cassie and Rachel died. The point is that we need to honor them for speaking up for what they believe in even though they knew the consequence. How many of you would say "Yes I believe in God" even if you were fully aware of the fact that someone would shoot you? I think that Rachel and Cassie both need to be honored and it's great that there's a song about them.

This song was written about a girl who died at the columbine high school april 20th 1999. Eric Harris the leader of the shooting asked Cassie if she belived in god. Eric Hariss said to her if you answer "yes" i will shoot you, and if she answered "no" he would let her go. He asked her the question, "do you belive in god?" and she said yes. he shot her once (not killing her) and he asked her again. she gave the same answer and Eric Harris took her life. this song is written in memorie of her.

she called her song Cassie because a girl named Cassie had a shooter pointing a gun to her face and he said"Do you belive in god" and she said yes so he shot her and she died then he pointed the gun at a girl named Rachel he asked her do you believe in god she said yes he shot her and she Did'nt die but he asked her again do you believe in god she said yes again he shot her she died this time
p.s. i know this because i went to a concert called real fest 2009 and she said that is why she called her song Cassie -
I think this song is, yes, about the Cassie Bernal shooting. But more than that. that if you give in to the evils in our world, that you are no better than your killer. The question 'do you believe in god' is simple to answer. Even if a mad man is holsing a gun to your head. 'Yes' or 'No'. Standing up for what you believe in is the right thing to do. This song portrays the fact that your beliefs are your own, and if you stand up for them, you stand up for your self and your religous comunity. In the song Lacy says that she will say yes, meaning she would say that she believes in god eeven if it ment death.
*Cassie is very brave and should be honored for standing*** *up for her beliefs************************************* -
The song is of course about the columbine massacre we all know that but in the acoustic version of this song she says and I quote 'my SISTER Cassie pulled the trigger' now I don't understand why she says tat in the acoustic version was Cassie her sister.
-
Not only is this song a dedication to the Columbine martyrs, but it's also meant to make you think. Would you stand up for God if you knew it would result in your death? I love this band and song; it has a great message!
