Flyleaf: Cassie Meaning
Cassie Lyrics
To save her life or take it
The answer "No" to avoid death
The answer "Yes" would make it
Make it
"Do you believe in God?"
Written on the bullet
Say "Yes" to pull the trigger
"Do you believe in God?"
Written...

At first I thought the song was about suicide.(mainly because I was really tired when listening to the song and I couldn't stop thinking about my friend who commited suicide) but then I realized it was the high school killing and the girl cassie who wouldn't back down in saying she believed in god.

Cassie was a student that was murdered in the massacre at Columbine High School. The shooter came up to her and her friend, Rachel, and asked if they believed in God. When Rachel replied no, Cassie tried to correct her and express her beliefs. That is when she got shot. She may or may not have been shot a second time.

I listened to this song twice, and realized the lyrics,"do you believe in God" then, "cassie Pulled the trigger" And automatically remembered a Story i was told in Guidance class. I assumed it was about the Columbian High School Massacre and my suspections were correct. I Typed in, " The meaning of, Cassie - Flyleaf" and got this website. Thank you for the information(:

I know that the last time anyone submitted an interpretation was in 2006, but I just felt like adding to it, if you will.
A few of these comments said that Cassie didn't pull the trigger, and that's what they didn't understand about the song.
What it's saying by "Cassie pulled the trigger" is that she said yes. If she would've said no, he wouldn't have shot her, but she sealed her fate by saying yes.
At the end of the song, it says how many will die? How many of you would have said yes if you knew you were going to be shot? We should all follow Cassie's example. -
Cassie is about the Columbine shooting...but I'm pretty sure that's been established. Lacey actually went to my school, which I think is pretty cool. Had to share that :)
-
I read that the shooter heard Cassie praying aloud and then the rest was stated by the dude who quoted wiki.

I went to a concert, but knew what this song spoke of about before from my knowledge. The incident of Columbine, this was where two high school students of Columbine high school devised a plan to get back at the "in-crowd" that thought they were better than everyone else. Eric Harris, a manipulative antisocial convinced Dylan Klebold, a social outcast teased by those preps who pushed their views as the only way to think. Dylan agreed to setup bombs and hold guns against the school to avenge himself of this bullying. Two of these girls were caught in the crossfire of the moral question and deadly shooters. They were not cowards, they stuck to their beliefs. Cassie and Rachael were Christians who held strong. They were to decide whether to say they did not believe and live, or profess their belief and be shot, multiple times. "Do you believe in God?", they threatened to these girls to see if they were going to die by their word. Their last words before the pains of dying were, "Yes". The word hanging in the air for all others around them to remember. How many of you would say yes and die(to pull the trigger) Lacey asks her listeners(She says she would).

It is about the Colombine thing, I really believe that. just because Cassie's best friend remembered it, and no one else, doesn't mean anything. It could have been too quiet for anyone to really make out the words. Then, they wouldn't remember it, because if you don't hear it, you don't remember it I am glad Cassie stood up for what she believed in, though i'm sad it got her killed :)

Why should we fear death if we are sure we are going to eternal happiness and there is so much sadness in the world and life...well this life is meant as a punishment from Adam and Eve so she shouldn't be thought of as brave, but lucky I'd say yes.....with a smile

Columbine.....yes.

Okay, so I've read a lot of different paragraphs about this storie. Well, I just wanted to put something out there for all of you. Those two guys, Eric and someone else I forgot the name of where the killers, right? Well, Im 11 years old and I have a pretty dark spirit but I love God and I understand the consepts and everything. I may seem to young to be loving Flyleafs music but I act like Im 17. Haha, so basically, Eric and that other guy killed them selves for killing, what? 13 innocent kids? Well, now people are saying that they where bullied. I bealive it, but why would they go so insane and take their anger out on innocent people? God did not punish them. God loves all his children, evil or good. Jesus and God are the most powerful people none to man. I love them as much as the next person.

To be completely honest... I understand that this song was written to honor those people from Columbine who stood up for what they believe in... but when I first heard the song I had a completely different interpretation. At the time when I discovered Flyleaf and "Cassie," I was in a very dark depression due to three people from my school committing suicide, and one of which was a good friend of mine. I saw this song as more of the effect of people committing suicide, and how to learn from it. If you listen to the acoustic version of Cassie, it says "they didn't love their life so much as to shrink from death, inspired in their footsteps we will march ahead." And when I saw how much of an impact this made on the people around me... I was inspired in their choices, even if it was the wrong choice, and it helped me become less suicidal.
I realize that this interpretation wasn't the same as when Lacey Mosley wrote it, but it is my interpretation. And any interpretation of this song is correct. Music is made to help, inspire, and to make you think. You don't have to have the same interpretation as someone else. -
While reports seem to show Cassie Bernall never had that exchange with one of the shooters, the exchange between a shooter and Rachael is not disputed at all.
Rest in Peace to all the victims. -
I just realized what this song meant when i looked up the lyrics to it this is now my favorite song what i read is that this song is enforced by the Columbine high school shooting. two girls named Cassie and Rachel were both asked if they believed in God. Cassie was asked first she said yes. she was not killed by the first shot. they asked her again if she believed in God she replied yes again so they shot again. That shot killed her. Rachel was killed on the first shot. These girls died for the man that died on the cross for their rights!!! I would have done the same!!....
