Godsmack: Voodoo Meaning
Voodoo Lyrics
When I feel the snake bite enter my veins.
Never did I wanna be here again,
And I don't remember why I came.
Candles raise my desire,
Why I'm so far away.
No more meaning to my life,
No more reason to...

This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway

This interpretation is from LL and he said this :
Absolutely about heroin. There really isn't any other logical interpretation and given the fact that I now know that they changed the lyrics, I'm 100% positive.
And this is my interpretation and here’s what I said:
The song is about shooting up heroin and everyone in his life leaving him because he did heroin and about being depressed.
The line “When I feel the snake bite into my veins” that means when he’s shooting up heroin.
The line” And I don’t remember why I came” means he probably overdosed and didn’t remember anything.
The line “I’m coming back again” probably means he’s not going to do drugs anymore.
The lines “No more meaning to my life” “No more reason to stay” means he’s feeling depressed.
To me that’s what the song means because I’ve listened to the song since I was very young and the more I listen to it the more I begin to understand what it means. -

Watch the faceless interview on YouTube he talks about all the times he overdosed on heroin, these ppl who never experienced this drug will never understand the song period.

Dont be a fool if u had half a brain you would know its about heroin. Yes sully is a devout wiccan, probably like the serpent and the rainbow as its an obviously badass movie but this is about struggles with addiction "never did i want to be here again". I hope they didnt change the lyrics because the i appreciate the metaphors, but no voodoo is not "slang" for heroin that is just nonsense. My source? Ex-junkie

Song is not about heroin, Sully is a fan of the movie Serpent and the Rainbow

LOL first of all a lot of ppl posting dont know any band history of Godsmack. 1. the previous drummers name was Tommy Stewart. 2. The original guitarist wasn't with the band when they started getting famous. As for Godsmacks name the cold sore is the true story (you think they would make up a story like that?)yes AIC was an influence for sully. And lastly the song is about heroin addiction plain and simple
-
I think you're supposed to use your own experiences to get what you want out of the song (like the addiction thing)
-
Yes...this song is most definitely about addiction...but "awesome song about drugs"??? WTF?? He doesnt want to go anywhere near "the snake", but the addiction draws him in. Coming from a heroin addict, this song is an extremely powerful song. The hatred for your drug, but for some reason your demons draw you back. Not a "good drug song" but a VERY powerful song.

Okay, this song really has no exact meaning to the artist Sully Erna. This and the song Serenity have NO MEANING WHAT SO EVER TO THE BAND. Running Blind on the other hand is about on the verge of when they were going to almost break up. I saw them in concert at Rock the Ink 2008 Providence ( first concert in 1.5 yrs ) but they had shows since then now. But Sully Erna said that about it when I met him. Also for all you smack fans out there...
SMACK THIS! -
This is not about heroine.
It was based off a film called "Serpent and the Rainbow" as some one had just said. Sully, the writer of the song, is part of the Whiccan religion and it really shows through the song. People do think it's about heroine becaues of the "Snake bite enters my veins..."
After the songs end, there is a two minute silence and you hear this precussion instrument bonus. You can hear the band members and producers talk about how they put this peice together (it's faint though, so listen carefully) and you'll hear people shouting, "Voodoo". -
It's about heroine

Sully Erna's lyrics are always about his own feelings. It's not bout drugs but it's a very cool song if we understand its meaning. All godsmack's songs are about the same feelings, sometimes the raise (awake, I stand alone...) & sometimes about the fall (goin down, asleep, make me believe...). This feelings are like a spiral that turn is Sully's head (that is why "spiral") so if we listen to all songs, we will understand that song: it combines the raise (I'm not the one who so far away): here Sully feel that he is alive, that he is not far from others humans thoughts, this feeling can be brought by some pain (we feel pain if we are real, alive) here comes the meaning of "when I feel the snake bite". Then he describes his actual situation "no more meaning...to stay": here he feels so far from this world (the fall) but he wanna make a change & feel himself (I'm coming back again). He repeats "I'm not the one who's so far away" to persuade himself that.

All I know is I found myself listening to this song over and over again one night until the lyrics "Never did I wanna be here again, And I don't remember why I came" hit me like a ton of bricks and I said "Oh No! I've been voodooed into listening to this song over and over again!!" then I snapped out of it and said "cool"
