Jason Mraz: Love For a Child Meaning
Love For a Child Lyrics
There's a picture on my kitchen wall
Looks like Jesus and his friends involved
There's a party getting started in the yard
There's a couple getting steamy in the car parked in the drive
Was I too young to see this with my eyes?

I think that Jason's song is talking about his mom having an affair with somebody in their car, and his dad not knowing about it. His sister fell into the pool and drowned, and because his parents were both having marriage issues, they both blamed each other for their daughters death. When his dad found out about the affair, they split up; and the kid is hoping that all their hate for each other had to do with the loss of the daughter they loved, hence "love for a child," not because of his moms affair.

This song is about a divorce, and his parent/s ignoring him to a great degree. Feeling unloved, he turned to drugs and sex for the lost love, but still didn't get it.
"What about taking this empty cup and filling it up with a little bit more of innocence" Is referring to the childhood he didn't really get to have. -
This song is about the divorce of Mraz's parents when he was young. It had great impact: ''And taking drugs and making love at far too young at age''
He felt like he was being ignored: ''And they never checked to see my grades, what a fool I'd be to start complaining now'' and ''It's probably because when you're young, it's okay to be easily ignored''.
But I still do not know how to inteprent the first story about the party in the yard - were his parents so wild or did they made little Jason by accident at a party?
