Melanie Martinez: Moon Cycle Meaning
Song Released: 2023
Moon Cycle Lyrics
I said, "Baby boy, you know I'm on my period,” yah!
He bit the cherry down, he's delirious
Seeing red figures in his mirrors and
Acting like a real tough, furious
Blood swimming, turn him amphibious
He says...

The song deals with the stereotypes of women during their menstruation. Popular media portrays women to be weak and undesirable when on their period. (So false by the way)
I’m pretty sure mel explained that as intended, the lyrics are meant to portray “how blood represents vitality and life”.
But it can be argued that for the most part, what it appeared mel is getting at is her romantic interest having developed an affinity for having sex while she is in her period. (love btw but I don’t think I could lmao)
Also… we cannot forget about how some lines of the song are a possible jab to her ex-boyfriend Oliver Tree’s song “revival,” where he makes stereotypical and misogynistic statements about women on their periods.
Personally, this song is one of my favourites on the new album alongside ‘Powder’ and ‘Tunnel Vision’ <3 -
This has to be about female empowerment and not being embarrassed to talk about menstruation. Also a direct call out at Oliver Tree
-
Is about Mel mocking Oliver and being on her period. That's it. A greath song though ;)
-
this song is about oliver tree, oliver mentioned "i'm angry like a bloody like a bitch on her period" and melanie mentioned "i could win a fight on my period matter fact right now i could build a pyramid"
