Little Talks Lyrics
(Hey!)
(Hey!)
I don't like walking around this old and empty house
So hold my hand I'll walk with you my dear
The stairs creak as you sleep it's keeping me awake
It's the house telling you to close your eyes
Somedays I can't even...

"THE REAL "LITTLE TALKS": Okay. "Little Talks" is... How we usually make our lyrics is, Raggi and I, sometimes we come up with stories or situations. That one is about a relationship. Sometimes we haven't wanted to give too much away. We like people to read their own things in the lyrics. I guess I could share it. It's about a couple and the husband passed away and it's from the conversation between the two of them. We don't know if she's going crazy or if someone's actually there. We've kind of been inspired by people that lived in my house. This old couple that lived there for 30 years. The woman passed away, so it was kind of different." -
I believe it is open to interpretation, based on one's situation and experience.
I'm quite young and my husband and best friend recently passed away - very unexpectedly.
The following bit of the lyrics especially touch me as I struggle with wanting to let go but, at the same time, wanting to hold on to the person I love so very much:
"You're gone gone gone away
I watched you disappear
All that's left is a ghost of you
Now we're torn torn torn apart, there's nothing we can do
Just let me go we'll meet again soon
Now wait wait wait for me
Please hang around
I'll see you when I fall asleep"
I mean, if I had heard the song/lyrics at a different point in my life I would likely interpret something different. It's all open. -
I believe that the husband also died and she is talking with his ghost. I love listening to this song, but the music video
I dont understand. -
I think he is dead and she can't stop thinking of him. He tells her that he will hold her hand while she's walking alone. It's killing him to see her being so sad. He misses their little talks they had. I'd say that she's talking about him and he answers from afterlife... He wants her to let him go and forget him so she can be happy again, because they will meet again anyway when she dies too.
"You're gone gone gone away
I watched you disappear
All that's left is a ghost of you
Now we're torn torn torn apart, there's nothing we can do
Just let me go we'll meet again soon
Now wait wait wait for me
Please hang around
I'll see you when I fall asleep"
Thats the part I mean. They will see each other, when she sleeps. They will see each other in her dreams! -
They are drowning. If you see the album cover there is a man walking out of the ocean. In the background a house is in the sea. The couple is drowning and they are recalling there life where "They used to play out side when they were full of LIFE and full of LOVE". They are talking to each other and singing together when they say "You are gone gone gone.". In the end they both die... and their bodies are returned safely to shore. I also think the wife had a kind of mental disease but that isn't a main part of the song. This song is beautiful.
My second interpretation is that the man is forcing that woman to drown with him. She is talking about "walking through the empty house". Again to the album cover, She and him are walking to the ocean. While they walk, in the first two things the woman says, the woman is talking about everything that is in the way of them drowning together. But after wakling together she starts to recall their love. And then they die. THey say the :truth may vary" because the wife doess't know whether it is right to drown...But in the end they die together. Beautiful, but harsh. Everything is like that these days. -

Either Alzheimer's or mental illness (probably schizophrenia if the 2nd is the case).
-
Sounds like me and my boyfriend. I suffer from manic depression. And schizophrenia. Sometimes you lose yourself. He always tries to comfort me but.sometimes.not even that can bring you back. These were great.metaphor and I love that she's singing the parts she is. Old empty house, her feerling. Him taking her hand so she won't be alone. but it can truely drive a loved one away. Her not trusting herself. But if it is true love its ok to let go for awhile. That's how i interpreted it! :)
-
I have heard a lot of different interpretations, but I have a different one then the guesses above. I think that this song is about a girl with schizo. "we miss our little talks" is the voices in her head, and the house is her mind. The "ghost if herself" is her other personality(s). If you read carefully, you will see more examples.
-
The song seems to be written to be open to interpretation. It seems conclusive that it is about an old couple/person "when we were young", "this old house"...
The authors moved into an old house where the woman had died...The house and its story inspired the song.
One might interpret the song from the perspective of a woman with a mental disease "the truth may vary", cant dress, dont know if Im wrong or right. Saw her husband die of alzheimers and now she has it.
However, one could read the song as from the point of view of a man who has lost his "wife" and is losing his mind "the house is empty" "your gone, all thats left is a ghost of you", "old voice in my head". The wife is dead and the man talks to himself as if he can keep her alive inside him "all thats left is a ghost of you"... He is the one who can't dress himself... He hears her old voice... His mind is playing tricks on him. He does not know "wrong or right". The screams are inside his head. He cannot accept the the loss "dont listen to a word I say". -
The woman suffers from a mental disorder and her husband or boyfriend remains by her side but is also suffering from seeing her atrophy into something distant and cold. The woman speaks of what her life is like now with the condition and her husband offers condolence in the pleasantries of their past together. However, they both know that in the end they will be united again, even in death. The truth may vary for both of them in how they perceive the situation and they know that, but in the end their souls will be together.
-
I really think that the woman is dealing with some kind of mental illness, and she feels like she is losing herself. The man loves her and is trying very hard to be supportive and help her to get back to how she was before. I feel that they are going throught this together. Beautiful song!
-
I'm thinking the song is about her losing her ability to care for herself (probably Alzheimer's disease as mentioned above), the man wanting to support her, assist her, but both feeling frustration at the situation and sometimes lashing out in anger, but wanting forgiveness for what they may say.
When they are asleep they are both at peace and free to dream of when things were better.
The 'ship' is life, and once they are both gone (dead) they will be happy together again for eternity 'shore'. Death will release them from their torment. -
i think the interpretation above me is correct. my thoughts are definitely NOT what this song is about but it is a little talk. i just went on a walk and i was looking down and around... past ski schools, swiss hotels, well-groomed golden retrievers, vomit on the sidewalk, nature center, athletic club... when i looked up i saw mountains, trees, blue sky & sunshine... this has been my familiar route for however many years it has been since i fell in love. everytime i think about him on my walk. every time i walk or run anywhere & everywhere i go i think of him. when i am inside i have to be "on" and take care of people. when i get to go outside my mind is able to wander and go where it wants to go and it always lands on HIM. so just like john muir i find that by going OUTside on a long walk i really am going IN. i love being outside.
that is my little talk. my name is juana and i am argentinian. thank you. -
Seems to be about an older couple who have been married for many years and now the wife is suffering from alzhiemers disease. It's a sad story of what they are going through with the wife struggling through this tragedy trying to keep her memories and just get through everyday functions. The husband who is dying inside as he sees his wife disappear a little each day trys to keep her comforted as this terrible thing progresses. He reflects on how things were when they were young and how he misses their conversations. There seems to be a part where she tells him not to take anything she says to hearts when she's not herself. He seems to try to pull her back when he sees moments of her normal self. This song should be the banner for the fight against a terrible plight.
