The Yacht Club Lyrics

Adam: My raw candy passion is bitter-sweet,
Onto the teeth,
'Cause she would rather fall in chocolate,
Than fall in love, especially with me.
I stood under the waterfall,
With a kiwi pineapple parasol,
As Cinderella dropped the crystal...

My rock candy passion is bittersweet/
    And armed to the teeth/
'Cause she would rather fall in chocolate/
Than fall in love, especially with me/

I think this phrase refers to a crush he has on a girl, but she doesn't return the feelings (passion; bittersweet;). Since he found out that she doesn't feel the same way (bottom 2 lines), in an effort to avoid embarrassment he keeps his crush as a well-protected secret(armed to the teeth).

    I stood under the waterfall/
    With a Kiwi pineapple parasol/
As Cinderella dropped the crystal ball/
    And made a concrete cavern/
    A caterpillar concert hall/

The lyrics in this phrase are probably the most obscure in the entire song. The way I think of it, he is off fantasizing about the girl (top 2 lines) and she is the center of attention wherever she goes (Cinderella was the "belle" of the ball in the story).

I wish that we could sail our sad days away/
    forever/
In deep blue seas of paper-mache/
    Let's dance in the moonlight/

This is part of his daydream about the girl that he can't have (sailing away in deep blue seas; dancing in the moonlight). Sort of like a romantic date on a cruise ship. Or, a yacht. :)

A barracuda chased our dog days away/
    forever/
Let's sink or swim 'til we fall in love/
    And dance in the moonlight/
When we join the yacht club/

I'm not sure what the lyric about the barracuda means, but the other lyrics in this phrase are pretty self-explanatory.

I would rather go swimming with great white sharks/
    Than wade in romance/
'Cause I can never find the courage/
To ask her to dinner or even to dance/

He knows that the girl doesn't have any interest in him, but even though he wants to take a chance and tell her how he feels, he can't find the courage to do so.

    Don't sweat under your overcoat/
'Cause my heart can't harbor this paddle boat/
You'll hit the bottom of the highest note/
    And the chatty tree frogs/
Will never wanna leave your throat/

This is another set of very obscure lyrics, and to be honest I am really not at all sure what they mean. However, I think that the 2nd line means that his heart is really yearning for this girl's affections and it's really beating him down. Think about it, what does a paddle boat do when it's in the water? It repeatedly churns the water and propels it out the back of the boat.

Let go of the world you know/
And plug in the party lights/
Soak your cares in the solar flares/
That light up these island nights/

    More daydreaming. :)

Orange eclipse, I can taste your lips/
    In the citrus afternoon/
If you can fly, don't stop at the sky/
'Cause there's footprints on the moon/

He is fantasizing about kissing the girl in the first 2 lines. The bottom 2 lines are actually quite beautiful. He is basically saying that even though things don't always end up as you want them too, it's okay to let your imagination run away.

I hope that my interpretation made sense and that it gave you a new way of looking at this song. :)

Thw whole song is very lighthearted, and the meaning is pretty obvious once you get around all the metaphors. My interpretation of the song is that, basically, he is in love with a girl (a bittersweet passion) but, frankly, she would rather 'fall in chocolate than fall in love, especially with him.' The chorus states that he wants to be happy, dance in the moonlight, join 'the yacht club', and sail away all their sad days- kind of like a fantasy
