Rammstein: Mein Herz Brennt Meaning
Song Released: 2012
Mein Herz Brennt Lyrics
ich bin die Stimme aus dem Kissen
ich hab euch etwas mitgebracht
hab es aus meiner Brust gerissen
Mit diesem Herz hab ich die Macht
die Augenlider zu erpressen
ich singe bis der Tag erwacht
ein heller...

The Sandmann is singing to the children about how they go to sleep and what happens over night. The sky gets dark and he appears. He removes his heart, and with it coerces their eyelids. Once closed, and the moon comes out, the demons, ghosts and black elves creep out of the basement and peer under the children's covers. They collect their hot tears and press them into the Sandmann's cold veins... the tears, apparently, make their way to his heart and make it burn. When daylight reaches the sky, he stops singing and the kids wake up.
Good German nursery rhyme. -
Theme is one of fear, the imagery is that of fire. The childrens tears enter the character whose heart burns until the heart is literally on fire. This insinuates that the writer is acknowledgeing the pain of the child. The child is tormented by fear and the burning heart by the fermeament resembles the sun. The power of the sun makes the eyes extort, insinuating that the sun is the enemy and the childs fears have kept it up all night to the point that it hates the sun as the child could not sleep at night. I think the song is metaphoricalycould be about depression or somebodies ignoranceto not acknowledge the pain in the world. And then when they actually open their eyes to the world their ignorance in letting fear paralize them has helped or allowed the pain and suffering in the world to continue. I think the song is about ingnorance and the result of being ignorant and living in fear which doesnt help the worlds suffering.

A song about nightmares.
The repetetive "my heart burns' statement indicates that person is terrified by their night dreams and their heart races, beats very fast when they awake.
'They come to you in the night (...) and will look under your bedding' - the imaginary monsters under bed, in wardrobe etc.
'and steal your small hot tears' - the dreams that scare enough to make children cry
I utterly love this song. It's easy to understand, the melody fits in with the theme, and I know it, since I too was beliving in strange things as a child and had one of these nightmares.
