Shinedown: Fly From The Inside Meaning
Song Released: 2003
Fly From The Inside Lyrics
Here's the weight of the world on my shoulders
On my shoulders
All alone I pierce the chain
And on and on the sting remains
And dying eyes consume me now
The voice inside screams out...

#1 top rated interpretation:Brent Smith said "no one can actually steal the sun from the sky...but that's the whole thing about it, it's all about that unattainable dream you might have...flying from the inside means you just find the strength within yourself to believe that you can actually do it, you can go after your dream." He said that in a listening podcast...straight from the man himself.

#2 top rated interpretation:To me, I think this song is a summary of what the band is about. As their band name suggests, sometimes you shine, and sometime you are down, and you don't know how to get throught it, but you do.
"I found a way to steal the sun from the sky. Long live that day that I decided to fly from the inside."
i think those are the most important lines in it. When you steal the sun from the sky, you are being yourself. Your thoughts, actions, and words are finally coming straight from your soul, and you are no one else but you. I think it's talking about that moment in life when you realize who you are, and that by finally uncovering that, you now have what you need to fully succeed(and shine). No one can bring you down now that you know that your life is up to you and it doesn't matter what anyone else wants or thinks. You can't look back and regret things in the past, you have to look forward and focus on every moment in taking your dreams into your hands and never backing down. -
I think the person above has the right idea. The imagery of flying and stealing the sun from the sky reminds me of superman (since superman's power comes from the yellow sun). I think the implication about superman is a metaphor for the inner power available to those who believe in themselves and are willing to make a difference. Having the weight of the world on our shoulders means it's up to us to do something because the world's not going to change on its own, and that's a heavy burden. The whole 'Leave a Whisper' CD seems to have a common theme of a chaotic world pitted against us and a need to do what we can to change it.
