Shinedown: Unity Meaning
Song Released: 2012
Unity Lyrics
And a picture of us
Even though it was framed
And covered in dust
It's the map in my mind that sends me on my way
They say it's never too late
To stop being afraid
And there is no one else here
So why...

#1 top rated interpretation:one interpretation can be god won't leave us in despair and darkness he won't leave us behind he will find us and shine a light on us, all we have to do is put our hands in the air, by receiving him, the song says if you hear me I been looking for you day and night, hes been waiting for us to accept him into our lives and the we will not be alone in our despair and darkness and he won't leave us behind it could also mean about a lost love but it also means in unity there are so many of us in despair we are not alone, whatever interpretation you come up with, its a good song that speaks to the heart and soul,

I think "Unity" is talking about a guy and a girl who are having trouble with trust in their relationship. The guy and the girl are so in love but their past hinders them from trusting each other. In the lyrics "And in the blink of an eye the past begins to fade." it talks about how they should let the past go and not be afraid in their love. "They say it’s never too late
To stop being afraid
And there is no one else here
So why should I wait?" He's telling her how their is no one there who can contrast their love and they should let go of the fear that is holding them back. In the song, the guy tells the girl how he'll accept her for who she is and help her in times of darkness. He tells her to "put her hands in the air" to signify that she is letting go of the fear. The girl and the guy have long searched for each other and can't afford the relationship falling apart. The guy says he'll search the miles again if it only brings him back to the girl. -
pretty sure this is a breakup song/ unrequited love song. The picture is of them together and the dust suggests the relationship was a long time ago and over or else the picture would be clean and cared for if the realtionship were intact.
The song reads like an attempt to let go of the past and simultaneously hold onto it "And in the blink of an eye the past begins to fade...Cause I’m not gonna leave you behind".
Or maybe even allowing the singer to let go of an old relationship and allow themselves to start looking for a new one:
"So have you ever been caught in a sea of despair?
And your moment of truth
Is the day that you say “I’m not scared”" -
I think it means that you loved someone a long time ago and they for whatever reason they could not love you then and got away and you have a chance to get them back and let them have the love you saved for them at that time, its new and your love will save them, because it came at a time when they thought maybe they would never love again..

This song is all about being empathic and having solidarity. "I found a map and a picture of us" refers to finding out about someone's feelings, and the whole chorus refers to helping people in every way you can. This is also seen in the video, with the hands at the end.
