Sia: Chandelier Meaning
Song Released: 2014
Chandelier Lyrics
Can't feel anything, when will I learn
I push it down, push it down
I'm the one "for a good time call"
Phone's blowin' up, they're ringin' my doorbell
I feel the love, feel the love
1,2,3 1,2,3 drink
1,2,3...

Through the song "CHANDELIER" singer Sia conveys the living state of a girl who lives in a rather negative household. It may even be Sia's own experience as a child. Through the lyrics the listeners can understand the frustration of living in an alcohol infested household. We can even come to know that the girl has lost her desire to live. The pink paint in her hands may convey the dingy atmosphere or vomit due to excess drinking.

This song is all about depression and the craving for happiness.

Most people are wrong!!!!!
This song is not about suicide via hanging from a chandelier.
First and clearly, the line is "swing from the chandelier", not, hang from a chandelier.
Secondly, one of the next lines in the chorus is "Keep my glass full until morning light 'cause I'm just holding on for tonight On for tonight". If she was hanging herself to commit suicide she wouldn't have a glass that she was constantly drinking out of and refilling just so she could make it until morning light. So she obviously plans on being around until then, and she actually is because the next line is "Sun is up, I'm a mess, Gotta get out now, gotta run from this, Here comes the shame, here comes the shame".
"Swing from the chandelier" is a metaphor for partying hard, too hard. And along with the line "fly like a bird through the night" it's all a form of escape.
"Help me, I'm holding on for dear life, won't look down won't open my eyes" This means she know she's out of control but can't help herself. She's literally holding on for dear life so she doesn't fall and physically get hurt. But she's also holding on to dear life in a figurative sense because she knows that the "Party Girl" lifestyle will kill her eventually. And she "won't look down won't open her eyes" because she knows that what she's going to see is an ugly seen below her that is all too familiar. If she doesn't open her eyes she won't see it and in her mind it won't exist. Again, a form of escape and denial.
I found only one other interpretation interesting. On Feb 11 someone else wrote referring to the video;
her pulling on her left eye, exposing her entire eye, may be representative of a medical response team, or a doctor, shining a light on a patient’s eye (this is a test to see if the pupil dilates, and if the patient is still conscious/alive).
I think there is something to this but not in the sense that they mean. She needed medical attention because she passed out from partying too hard, not from a suicide attempt. -
Google sia chandelier meaning and u will get that she admitted that she was abused as a child, she gets drunk to forget that she is not being loved and she was abused asas a child (she admitted so) and she was hungry and her parents were full time alcoholics (she admitted this too) and she pretends she is living happily(hence the forced smiles and curtsies at the end) and the curtain wrapping is an example of trying suicide, the crazy weird dancing in the video is a sign that she is so lost and confused she is kind of going insane.

I do agree with everyone saying this song is about getting fucked up on drugs or alcohol and partying "like tomorrow doesn't exist". HOWEVER, I haven't seen anyone mentioning the fact that it seems like she is also having a lot of casual sex?
I'm the one "for a good time call"
Phone's blowin' up, they're ringin' my doorbell
I feel the love, feel the love
I feel like this line is about having strange men over all the time who get fucked up with her and have sex with her.
Sun is up, I'm a mess
Gotta get out now, gotta run from this
Here comes the shame, here comes the shame
And that line is about waking up next to the strange men the following day and being like, "Shit. I feel ashamed now. I have to get out of this situation." -
This is a layered meaning, she's gonna swing from the chandeliers, party like theres no tomorrow cuz she's gonna off herself. She's barely holding on and she's gonna fly like a bird in the night off the edge of the building with her tears drying as the wind blows by. Wonderful song, been hearing it for a while, but never heard lyrics, i thought she was gonna swim or something lol. then when i wanted to play it on my guitar and i read the lyrics........its my new fav song now and i totally dig sia as an artist.
Could've put a razor metaphor in their too but would be a bit much. -
An alcoholic that keeps drinking whenever he/she gets the money and that he/she is so drunk they'd swing from a chandelier or anything at all and the night after he/she is hungover and feels guilty about it and tries to recover but cant get out of the addiction.

Many posters have suggested 'swing from the chandelier' refers to suicide. While this may be the case, 'swinging from the chandelier' is also an expression that simply means having a wild time. Maybe it has just passed out of common use.
So someone could say 'Good party?' and the answer 'Good? They were swinging from the chandeliers!' wouldn't mean they had hung themselves, just that everyone was getting carried away
So in 'swinging from the chandelier' the song is talking about having a mad, abandoned, wild time on the surface -but underlying it is despair. -
This brilliant song shows in af few words the state of the consumption society most of us (chosen few) are holding on to for dear life.
Don't get hurt.
Cant feel anything.. Numb.
When will I learn..push it down.. Knowingly mindless.
As a bird through the night... Collision course.
Feel my tears as they dry .. little late now?
Won't look down and open our eyes.
If we do..
Here comes the shame!
123 123 drink/buy/waste/pollute.. Party Time!
Love the accoustic version, what a great voice! -
"Party girls don't get hurt
Can't feel anything, when will I learn
I push it down, push it down"
(She feels so numb that the feelings she's been pushing down won't surface. She's questioning if she'll ever learn from her mistakes.)
"I'm gonna swing from the chandelier, from the chandelier
I'm gonna live like tomorrow doesn't exist
Like it doesn't exist"
(I am going to party hard and lose myself tonight. I am gunna live for the night.)
"I'm gonna fly like a bird through the night, feel my tears as they dry"(She thinks if she parties fast enough and hard enough that it will ease the sadness.
"And I'm holding on for dear life, won't look down won't open my eyes
Keep my glass full until morning light, 'cause I'm just holding on for tonight"(She's probably getting drunk by now, but she won't give it up yet because every second she's gone is one second less she feels)
"Sun is up, I'm a mess
Gotta get out now, gotta run from this
Here comes the shame, here comes the shame"(The morning after when you feel guilty over losing control, when your feeling returns, and she realizes she needs to face the music but she's not ready.)
