Chandelier Lyrics

Party girls don't get hurt
Can't feel anything, when will I learn
I push it down, push it down

I'm the one "for a good time call"
Phone's blowin' up, they're ringin' my doorbell
I feel the love, feel the love

1,2,3 1,2,3 drink
1,2,3...

Shit... I thought it was about a vampire girl living at the bottom of an abandoned hotel down the stairs to the right at the end of the hall. She's waiting for her reincarnated love that has been dead for centuries and returned in this lifetime finally and she's just dancing around doing her thang waiting for his dumbass to show up after reminding him of the dreams she's haunted him with forever till he wakes the fuck up and finds her again. Maybe I'm wrong. I don't give a fuck.

    lol

Either way... the video, the song, the young lady (portraying) and Sia really rocked that shit and I'm proud of it.

    Bye Bye

Very simple meaning and can't believe u all missed it, ever hear the term "she must be swinging by the chandelier" meaning very kinky in bed... The opening lines party girl. The one they call. Men, for a good time. She drinks and looses her Inhibitions by way of drugs and alcohol ( engages in sexually risky behavior ) and In the morning when she is used up, that's when the shame comes and the cycle starts again, using the men, the drink, the night to get threw to the next... It's about depression, alcoholism, insecurity and the internal struggles she is going through cause she knows she can't live this way. When will she learn

I think that the song is trying to convey how drinking and partying is "her" (whom ever Sia wrote the song about) only form of release, and - while it does give her a sense a freedom - it's simultaneously dragging her down. The only way for her to be happy is by creating illusions due to alcohol and diluting herself into thinking that the people she's partying with are her friends. But of course, when she wakes up in the morning she's upset that her "friends" are gone and that she has to face reality again. So in order to fill the void that drinking and partying has created, she goes out to drink and party. It's a vicious cycle, and the songs kind of saying that she's about to hit a breaking point (But I'm on for dear life...Keep my glass full until morning light, cause I'm just holding on for tonight.)As others previous stated, I believe that her saying that she's "gonna swing from the chandelier" is a metaphor for killing herself (hanging herself), like she wants to go out the way she lived. This song is actually pretty dark once you start reading into the lyrics.

Basically, as a child, Sia's parents only bought alcohol. Hence why in the video, the girl is rubbing her belly after waking and sits down with no food in front of her (& their house is clearly not of high class so instead of buying food, they're spending it on alcohol). All she could do to survive was drink, and so it became a habit to party "I'm the one 'for a good time call', phone's blowing up -- ringing my doorbell 'I feel the love, feel the love'." She's clearly not actually "feeling the love". She wants her parents to stop drinking so much and actually care for her, but since they fail to do that, she's throwing parties for people to show their love towards her-- though only temporarily. The whole swinging from the chandelier thing does imply the want for suicide. "cuz I'm just holding on for tonight" -- at the very end, when she repeats this phrase, in the video the girl is curtsying, using fake smiles, and acting happy. She is either greeting her parents, or saying goodbye to her guests. It's a repeated routine. She says to herself it's only for tonight that she's holding on, but it's every single dreaded day.

Without really examining the lyrics much and watching the video, I sort of formed my own completely different interpretation; a mentally challenged or hidden girl who is overlooked and ridiculed but is actually amazingly talented and wonderful. She is trapped within the walls of society and sings about swinging on the chandelier or in other words being free and boisterous without the judgment of others.

I can't agree with all of the suicide interpretations. It seems like the song is about a crappy life that has shame. She wants to fly high on the chandelier to get above her senses as she doesn't want to be grounded in reality. Her drinking and partying takes the pain away and for the night she is pretending that tomorrow doesn't exist so she doesn't have to deal with her inner demons or real problems of the day. I want to fly like a bird in the night- means she just doesn't want to see. She knows flight without sight means she may crash but at least she is dulled from the extrasensory stimuli of vision/awareness.

She's cool. Great voice. Next song Sia, make it a bit more upbeat. Too many sad stories and too many people waiting for another reason to do something stupid like follow a depressed persons lead. Smile, life is really good and it ends soon enough.

Party girls don't get hurt - if i party hard enough I wont feel the pain

123, 123 drink. 123, 123 drink. - cover up the the pain with drugs and alchohol

Suns up. Im a mess. Gotta get up now. Gotta run from it here comes the shame. Comes the shame. - as soon as she wakes up the pain ( feeling of wanting to kill herself ) hits her . She has to get up and drug herself to stop the pain

Swing from the chandelier - swing above the pain. Above the problems

Help! Gotta hold on tight. Dont look down - she feels that when she swings on chandelier she has to hold on tight and not look down or esle she will fall bac to where she was before

The video shows ( at the end ) false smiles. Also in the video.it shoes, puppet like movents as if people.are pulling her by strings, hiding in the corner, partying with no one there, talking to yourself, crying, entertaining a crowd of no one, knocking on a door for no one to answer, and wanting to commit scuicide ( chocking herself with curtains ).

I, too, believe it's suicide. The 1,2,3, 1,2,3, drink I always imagine as pills, one two three, one two three, drink. The shame is the next day after the attempt is failed. Won't look down, wont open my eyes could be cutting, wont look down at the arms. And just holding on for tonight is the holding on til death. I only think this because it reflects parts of me, but, considering the sadness of the song, the 'implied' meaning would be the partying, but the deeper meaning would be suicide (even if metaphorically thru alchoholism). And the first verse is the suicide note, ending in I feel the love, feel the love. Party girls, dont get hurt, shes talking to her friends.

I think it's about partying and swinging from chandeliers until the night is done. Well that's what I thought at first then realized it was about suicide....hanging yourself on a chandelier and drinking, "just holding on for tonight"

The first comment is good enough but i dont think "swing from the Chandelier" means suicid as she also talks about holding on to Dear life. So For me it means she just wanna do her own thing, Live like tomorrow dosent exists.

I think the song is talking about how coming from a broken home and poor household she began drinking and she now needs to learn how to deal with all the fucked up stuff in her life

This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway
