Sleeping with Sirens: Iris Meaning
Iris Lyrics
'Cause I know that you feel me somehow
You're the closest to heaven that I'll ever be
And I don't want to go home right now
And all I can taste is this moment
And all I can breathe is your life
And...

1TOP RATED
#1 top rated interpretation:It means you are in love with someone but you can't tell anyone because they won't understand. I think it has something to do with self harm aswell because it mentions "bleed just to know you're alive", so maybe you self harm because you can't be with the person you want to be.

The name "Iris" was inspired by a country singer named Iris DeMent, whose name Rzeznik came across while reading a magazine.
The following is not my answer. It’s given in a link here. And I totally agree with her/him.
The Goo Goo Dolls - Iris Lyrics | SongMeanings
To me this song is a love song at it's base, but you can reach deeper into it and find out about the singer and his personal life and his problems.
And I'd give up forever to touch you
'Cause I know that you feel me somehow
This is showing how much he enjoys her company -he;d give up forever to TOUCH her! Because he believes she understands him
You're the closest to heaven that I'll ever be
This is self deprecating, he doesn't believe he'll go to heaven and he thinks she is so much better than him
And all I can taste is this moment
And all I can breathe is your life
And sooner or later it's over
I just don't wanna miss you tonight
He's caught in the moment, he knows it has to end but he wants it to last at least for the night,
And I don't want the world to see me
'Cause I don't think that they'd understand
When everything's meant to be broken
I just want you to know who I am
He was hiding from the world, because he thinks that they'd all judge him, but in a world where everything is broken and everything is terrible he found her, who he can open up to and he wants her to know who he is as he trusts her not to judge him
And you can't fight the tears that ain't coming
He's used to fighting tears, he cries most, if not every night, but here with her he's not. She makes him happy.
Or the moment of truth in your lies
I'm caught on this, I think there are two possible meanings:
1. Talking to her is his moment of truth in a lifetime of lies about everything.
2. Even though he tries to tell her his usual lies he finds the truth just coming out.
When everything feels like the movies
Yeah you bleed just to know you're alive
I think this is something he told her. That sometimes he feels disconnected and numb and cut off -the way you do when watching a movie. He self harms to make himself feel alive, because even pain is better than not feeling.
I just want you to know who I am
I just want you to know who I am
I just want you to know who I am
I think this is repeated to really get it in our heads that all he wants is for her to know who he is.
So I think this song is about a person who has gone through, or currently has depression, who is messed up right now and afraid and hiding from everyone and basically has a lot of issues. He's finally found someone to talk to, who he feels understands him and he has fallen in love with her. This is his song to her -
Its about hiding your trueself, your true feelings to anyone because you are afraid that they never understand you. You always pretending that your okay. That everything's fine. But you're not! And it kills you inside knowing everyday you have to pretend in front of them. And you wish there is just one person that would understand you and accept for who you really are.
And then she came..
She understand you even if you dont tell anything to her. She feel you totally as a person! Although you re hiding and pretend that you okay she knows that you are not as if she knows you well. It makes you feel especial that you are more than good enough.
You dont want to lose this feeling.. This moment being with someone who makes you feel complete. -
I don't think this song is about self harm at all. Lemme remind you, that this was written in the 90's by The Goo Goo Dolls. SWS covered this. Self harm wasn't a hot topic like it is today. I think it's just about depression in general, caused by a girl he loves that doesn't love him.

I think that this song is about a person who is depressed and afraid to be themselves around people and doesn't think people would understand them but really wants people to understand him.
This is what the song means to me personally at least because I was a really depressed person and still am and a drug addict(not anymore). I didn't think that anyone would understand who I really was and was on my way home to kill myself one night and my friend came over randomly and just wanted to talk to make sure I was alright, which I wasn't.
So I decided to tell him what was wrong thinking that he is just gonna stay here another hour or 2 and leave and then I would do it. The thing is that he didn't leave, he was the first person to try and understand what I was going through and also the first person to say, "hey bro, I love you don't do this it will get better, please".
He begged for me not to kill myself while people at school and home were telling me to kill myself not even aware that that day I already had the pills laid out in my room that would end my life.
To this day I am alive and well and no longer a drug addict because I told someone how I felt. -
Not to be a attention seeker but I self harm and my family calls it a phase, for attention and it's not and I don't know what else to do so it will help if someone can give me good advice
-
I think that this song is about gay love, he says that person that he loves is the closet haven that he will be. Also, "I don't want the world to see me.'Cause I don't think that they'd understand" Some people don't support same-sex relationship, and they don't understand that kind of love. In the part "you'd bleed just to know you're alive", he is talking about self harm and struggle to accept himself.
-
You're in love with someone, but you know it won't work and everything will be broken because they won't understand you. You don't want people to see the real you because you know they wont understand.
-
You're afraid of people not being able to understand you. There's one person that you love though.. You want them to understand you even if it's difficult.
-
It's about hiding your sadness and ache for someone hat you love, because your afraid no one will understand you and be able to help. And your starting to think maybe you like the darkness
