Three Days Grace - The New Real Meaning
The New Real Lyrics
-
I think, that this song has a pretty clear meaning. After listening to the song and reading the lyrics over a few times, it is unmistakably obvious that this song is referring to the societal standard that we all live by but are oblivious to. From the social ladder to the primal urge of gratification, we all have an image that we perceive ourselves as, and an image we want others to see in us. This song is alluding to the self obssesed people we have become. As is mentioned in the beginning of the song "crazy the things that will turn a blind eye" if it doesn't effect YOU in a meaningful way, then it's none of your concern. The song stresses the point that we are starting to lose touch with what makes us human. I'd even venture to say a motivating factor of this song is rooted in social media; "Look at me and my brand new maserati" something we constantly are barraged with. As I stated earlier we have an image that we would like people to perceive us as, and social media is the median by which to deliver this social image with. Gratification can be derived not just by drug induced stimulus "somebody special is in love with Molly" Likely referencing the popular upper. But social gratification can also be obtained through having more than someone else.
