5 Seconds of Summer: The Only Reason Meaning
The Only Reason Lyrics
Oh Oh,
Oh Oh,
Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh
Don't talk, let me think it over
How we gonna fix this?
How we gonna undo all the pain?
Tell me, is it even worth it?
Looking for a straight line
Taking back the time we can't replace
All...

I get this song can be depicted about 2 person relationship. But to me, it's the relationship michael has with himself. Like his talking back and forth between himself. I see 'feel you burning under my skin' as being so depressed and lost, but you can feel your old self hiding somewhere. And the verse after is encouragement to himself to keep pushing through. His the only reason he is still alive, and he wants to let go but he can't but because his stuck with hope that he doesn't want. His trying to figure out how to fix himself, and he needs space from everyone else to think things over.
I don't know. I feel like the song is the representation of my life. -
I don't know what was going through the composer's head when he wrote this song, but I have my own meaning for it.
To me, it's about two people who were in a relationship that was all great in the beginning. Then as time passed, both of them just ended up hurting each other.
Now, as of present time, one or both of them want to mend their relationship and "undo all the pain". This action requires a lot of thinking, hence the lyrics:
"Don't talk, let me think it over
How are we gonna fix this?
How are we gonna undo all the pain?"
He's asking him, HOW?? But then he wonders if it's "...even worth..." all the hurt and disgrace. All the time they'd spent with each other, liking and crushing on each other, is something he would like to get back to. It's not easy though, not a "straight line".
This is my favourite line of the song:
"Is it too late to bring us back to life?"
So the relationship had ended. They're basically strangers now, I guess. Everything they had is gone. He's asking if it's too late to return to those happier memories of when they were together.
"I swear my heart is never giving up"
He isn't going to give up; he's determined to find a way to get things back to the way they used to be.
"It's never too late to bring us back to life"
There you go: He decides that it's not too late. There's still a chance to save their relationship, no matter how futile his efforts may be. -
This is a song that Michael wrote about a past relationship of his and I assume that it's the one that he got the "To The Moon" tattoo, I don't know why..
So this song basically says that they had so many wrong things in their relationship and they came to the point where they actually don't know how to fix them anymore. And they are not even sure if the relationship itself deserves to be fixed. And by the words like "Don't talk, let me think it over" I guess that this time the girl done something really wrong but Michael still can't give up on her and he feels really bad about all of this stuff
