5 Seconds of Summer: Wherever You Are Meaning
Wherever You Are Lyrics
That we never had to end it
But we knew we'd have to say goodbye
You were crying at the airport
When they finally closed the plane door
I could barely hold it all inside
Torn in two
And I know I shouldn't tell...

#1 top rated interpretation:I am almost sure that this song is about Luke's ex-girlfriend Aleisha McDonald.
After 5Sos got the opportunity to go on a tour with 1d and everything, they had to leave Australia but Luke and Aleisha acted like they were never gonna break up and nothing happened. But when Luke was really leaving, they knew it was over.
In the chorus he says that he knows he shouldn't tell Aleisha how he still loves him cause he can't go back to her and he wants her to move on with her life but he can't help it.
Then second verse comes and he says that he could travel around the world a thousand times but he will never find any other girl that he can love like he loved Aleisha so he doesn't even try.
And although he wishes he was still there a part of him knows that maybe she doesn't feel the same way and she could've been with someone else but he doesn't really want the truth cause it would hurt too much.
And the heart-breaking part comes along and Luke says "people say that everything changes but how i feel about you doesn't and not going to."
I may have been over-emotional about this one, soz if I have.. -
I think this song is for all of us fans because in one of the live performances Luke simgs alone to the fans amd fights back tears of joy while letting them sing a part of the song.

I strongly feel this song is about Aleisha McDonald. I shipped those two so hard, and if they got back together I would be forever happy. The lyrics often talk about leaving home, but they are not referring to family because the lyrics are slightly romantic.
(i ship luke and aleisha more than luke and avocado) -
In my opinion, it's a song about a long distance relationship not working out. That, though it would make it harder, they can't stop thinking of their once lover. That they tried to pretend it would be okay, it would work out but neither were prepared for long distance.
I don't really follow up with 5 Seconds of Summer's relationship life, I just like the music, so if it's based on one of the band members personal life, I am unaware. -
Definitely about Aleisha. And it's obvious in the video that luke is trying not to get emotional, so they put in funny moments. those two were goals. They had a connection and even if us luke girls don't want to admit he liked someone...we have to. Just pray that someone will one day feel this way about you...and then interpret the song another way

I think there are many ways it can be interpreted. Whether it be about their families and having to leave them, or like others have said, the fans. However, me personally, Luke has performed it alone before meaning it must be more personal to him so I think it is probably about Aleisha. BOOM! Go listen to some 8675309 people.

It's is entirely about Aleisha. Look at picture of them together, they were happy. (Except that one where Luke wouldn't kiss her) This song is about how he had to leave her and that he couldn't take being with another girl.

They already knew that they have to break up due to him having his dreams coming true but they just pretend its not a big deal at first but by the time they were at the airport saying their goodbyes they knew it was over already.halfway towards the song he really wants to call her saying he still loves her but he knows he can't plus he also have thoughts that she moved on already but he doesn't want to actually know if she did.He can fly all over the world but any girl he meets isn't like the girl he still has feelings for so he stays single and he's always gonna have huge feelings for this special girl no matter where he goes or she goes
-
Honestly I thought he was talking about aleshia his ex at first but she follows him on twitter and he doesn't follow back so there must be hard feelings. I think it's kind of refereing to a girl but if you really try to pick apart the song it sounds like they're talking about themselves. That they were torn from there life and mother but they still wanted there dreams to come true with the tour and so they were torn in two. If you watch the music video you will kinda see what I'm getting at here.

It's about them caring for their fans no matter where they are.
