Avenged Sevenfold: Nightmare Meaning
Song Released: 2010
Nightmare Lyrics
Now your nightmare comes to life.
Dragged you down below
Down to the devils show
To be his guest forever
Peace of mind is less than never
Hate to twist your mind
But God ain't on your side
An old acquaintance severed
Burn...

I love Avenged Sevenfold, I love M. Shadows. I love Nightmare.
The song is full of vivid imagery and metaphors.
It is a song about a person who is an addict, again addiction represents anything that is wrong. And the journey of the addict after death as he faces hell fire. Hell fire is a place of regrets.
The song also brings about the image of choices that a person always has and it's upto the person to make the right or wrong choice. I love the dark and evil imagery in the song and that's what Avenged Sevenfold is about, a perfect blend of badass music with a touch on politics and religion. -
It was inspired by the movie jacobs ladder watch it and you'll see, no illuminati, just about that movie.
-
It is probably inspired of wrong turn 4.

it does seem like the song is dedicated to the rev, considering the drum set, and the fact that the rev was the band's drummer, but it still doesn't add up. if you hear the their single, so far away, you can tell the song is a memorial to a person he was close to. in the video, he shows a man in a series of photos, which is probably the rev. It seems like the singer thinks Christianity is crazy, even in some ways, satanic.
Down to the devils show
To be his guest forever -
It's about being dragged down to Hell and having nightmares after it. <3 Avenged Sevenfold. c:

One word,Illuminati.

This song wasn't about Jimmy's death. The song that was writtien by Jimmy about a weak before he died was called Death. Then renamed to Fiction. This song is about getting dragged to hell pretty much and being a sinner. The video is based off of Jimmy's favorite movie, Jacob's Ladder.
-
It's about if you sin you will go to hell. God only takes Christans to Heaven.
-
I hate to admit it, but the primary meaning behind this song is someone going to hell for not being a Christian or a Muslim or whatever. I'm an atheist and I think it's incredibly arrogant of M.Shadows to write a song about that, and I also believe the concept of hell is completely bollocks, but this song is about hell.
However, there are other meanings in it too. For instance, the line 'You've been lied to
Just to rape you of your sight
And now they have the nerve to tell you how to feel' is more than likely a reference to political propaganda.
Anyway, that's just my humble opinion. And despite M. Shadow's arrogant lyrics I still think this is a badass metal song. (And no, this song isn't about the Rev). -
i think that nightmare can be about anything bad thats happening in your life, anything that you did wrong, and then you have to accept the consequences of the mistake and you're living your nightmare

The Rev only played on the demo mike portnoy played the final version

IMO this song is about the sole state of mind. The broken heart, failed dreams and betrayal of trust. In other words, hell on earth is perception of solitary struggle and rejection. Like in revelations! A Nightmare in life u cant wake up from!
-
Ahh...does no-one ever watch interviews? Matt (lead singer) said that "Nightmare, is basically about people, most notably young teenagers who do as they wish, but when they get older, they realise that actions have consequences and the song is talking about them consequences, and this is the only song out of the whole album to have the lyrics not be changed because Jimmy loved them so much"
