Black Veil Brides: Knives and Pens Meaning
Song Released: 2010
Knives and Pens Lyrics
And I've lost all faith in this blurring light,
But, stay right here we can change our plight.
We're storming through this despite what's right.
One final fight, for this tonight...
Woah...
With knives...

"Alone at last, we can sit and fight, and i've lost all faith in this blurring light" You can automatically tell it will be depressing. He is saying that he can fight with his head. He has lost all faith in a god or any religous shit. Then his head is saying "Stay right here we can change our plight, storming through this, despite whats right." Basically his conscience telling him not to kill himself. The chorus repeats itself. It says instead of suicide, take your anger out with a knife (self harm) or a pen (write songs). Next verse goes on to say "Conscience made for you to do whats right" He finally gave in and is going to kill himself.. what I love about the last line is it says.. "We tried our best, turn out the light" People dont think about the lyrics and watch the video. There is the complete opposite ending in the video to the song.

Its about when Andy was younger he got called names because of how he dressed and how he acted. Knives represent cutting and pens represent writing. He could choose either one. Like in the video you see the kid writing near the railroads and on his locker you see stuff written. I can totally relate to this song and its meaning right now im actually in 7th grade and this stuff happens to me. And usually people would accuse me and others that wear black and listen to this music of doing wrong things.
Love this song! :3 -
This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway

I love BVB their songs have helped me through a lot in my life. I used to cut and the scars it left behind are horrible, but through them I have been doing better and gaining confidence in myself as a person to do what I want and to follow my dreams. To not care what other people think of me. I listen to their music everyday, they are like lullabies to me and I love them. Everyone who doesn't like this type of music is stupid when they don't even try to listen to the lyrics.

This song is about writing down your thoughts rather than resorting to self harm. It relates to the singer, Andy Biersack's, childhood. He used to get bullied a lot, and he had the choice of committing suicide or following his dream of being a musician. Thankfully, he decided to become a singer.
By the way, I love ALL of Black Veil Brides, not just Andy, and those fangirls who only like the band for their looks can GTFO. I liked BVB befor I even knew what they looked like. -
i love the song it is so me i used to cut myself and i wrote too. but now i rarely cut myself but i write a lot. i love andy biersack he encurages me to be me :D he is wonderful <3

I believe it's about choosing either to cut yourself (knives) or write down your feelings (Pens). Throughout the song he seems so be having trouble deciding which to do but his conscience is telling him to do whats right, which would be writing.
-
When asked what was the meaning of knives and pens, Andy said "I obviously look different and listen to different kinds of bands. The different kids where put down by other people and it would cause them to come almost violent with themselves, which isn't really necessary. There's a way you can find strength in yourself. For me it was writing. That was my release, or escape. Knives and pens to me was like a choice."

Well,i think it is about the war on emos.you know the one where mcr (my chemical romance if you didnt know)where really big and there where riottes all about it.around when my brother was was around 8-13(he is 18 now).At the begining it has a professor/examanist saying what he has witnessed through out.
^/that is only what i think <3 <3 <3 xxx -
Well the song is supposed to represent Andy as a kid and what happened to him because off the way he dressed and got called emo,fag etc. So i think most people in this situation would cut but instead he thinks to write stuff down and you can express your emotions a different way to just self harming for example writting songs down from whats happening can take your mind off things . So Andy chose writing songs over self harming which is the smart thing to do

I have no idea. I'm just taking what the singer says it's about in this video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jnPNLXh0Eh4 at 9:30 into the video.

The song "Knives and Pens" isn't talking much about Andy when he was younger. There was a court case where 3 little boys got murdered and 3 teenage boys that dress in black and listen to metal were accused of the murder when they didn't even do it! at the beginning of the music video where it says "In looking at young people involved.." ect. that was part of the case talking about the people that were supporting the teens because they knew they didn't do it!
-
This song is about how andy sixx saw kids getting bullied and saw how they would become violent with themselves.
-
it took me a while to understand the meaning of this song, its basically saying, YOU have the choice between cutting and writing, ive tried both, you can burn letters and delete writing, but you'll never be able to erase the scars that cutting leaves, emotional and physical. write; its so much better.
stay cool:)
