Wishing Well Lyrics

Been gone a long time
I kind of lost my way can't find it
And I caught a short ride
To the grave and back this season
I can try to get by, but every time I start to panic
I'm a little bit shy, a bit strange, and a little bit manic

I went...

My interpretation of Wishing Well is, about a he or she who lost someone that was very close to that person and died and that person lost their way after that person died. The first couple of lyrics are "I've been gone a long time, kinda lost my way can't find it, and I caught a short ride to the grave and back this season." This person that needed is either poor or that someone that died was the parent or someone that took care of them if they have to catch a ride every season to see this persons grave. Then the chorus comes in about a wishing well with symbolism of hope, think about it, the entire song has a kinda negative or sad lyrics and then it gets really upbeat and says "I had fun in the promise land" in the chorus as in he or she is positive and then goes about into the verses that have a negative vibe and then goes into the chorus about the wishing well, showing that even though times are tough for this person they still have hope and wish for better days!

Wishing well is about toms sturgles with blink 182.

    "Been gone a long time
I kind of lost my way can't find it
And I caught a short ride
To the grave and back this season"

Pretty self explanatory, but this stanza refers to how tom had left travis and mark, and started A&A where he had moderate success. And then how he made up with travis and mark and now they are back. It is the opening prologue to the story about the troubles he went through before blink got back together again.

The wishing well stanza refers to cheshire cat era, where scott was in the band, and travis wasnt. They wished they would be a success. But then scott left the band and tom and mark were hurt. They thought they were lost but then travis came along.

The shooting star is about how blink 182 rode there way to stardom, after scott had left and travis had joined. however this stardom came with a cost, and the band were having their troubles. It hurt tom greatly, the way things were going. The things tom did and the things that were said broke his heart. The line have fun in the promise land refers to how things ended after they broke up. The band went their separate ways seeking separate goals, and basically here tom was saying he wished the best for them in their endeavours.

In the next stanza tom speaks about how he was dealing with the break up. Tom and the rest of blink left on bad terms, and tom didnt even tell mark and travis that he was leaving; he had his agent do it for him. I cant remember, but I also think tom had said some mean things to mark and travis before leaving. In an interview on mtv with mark and travis after the break up, tom was calling tom a coward and such. So this stanza is talking about how tom was trying to dodge insults and criticism. he was "caught" in a bad situation like a "little kid stealing" and he was trying to avoid further controversy.

im not too sure but in my opinion its someone who is wanting his dream to come true ("i went to a wishing well"). his dream didnt come true ("i sank to the ocean floor"). he tried to take a short cut to the dream but he failed terribly ("cut up by sharped rocks"). he is almost about to give up. ("washed up along the shore"). he try's one last time ("i reached for a shooting star"). he has some doubts ("it burned a hole through my hand, it made its way through my heart") and then finally his dream comes true ("have fun in the promised land")

I went to a wishing well (i thought i could do better with A&A) sank to the ocean floor(it didn't do as great as i thought) washed up along the shore(realized i had made a mistake) i reached for a shooting star (started talking to mark and travis again) it burned a whole through my hand, made its way to my heart (realized i love these guys more then anything) have fun in the promise land (reuniting with mark and travis for blink 182) on the narrowing line, what a way to sort my troubles...

The chorus is about his time in angels and airwaves, he went to a wishing well, because he wanted to take blink 182 in a different direction but couldn't so he wanted another band.

Sinking to the ocean floor was being back at step one with the new band.

Being cut up on sharpened rocks, was the troubles and hardships faced in a new band.

Being washed up along the shore was his band just making it through.

Reaching for a shooting star was the glimmer of hope and ironically the star could be the plane travis crashed in as this was a catalyst to the blink 182 reunion.

As it burned its a hole through his hand and straight to his heart is when they started talking again after 5 years and how they we're all in happy spirits.

Having fun in the promise land is the reunion.
