Dashboard Confessional: Hands Down Meaning
Hands Down Lyrics
breathe in so deep,
this air is blessed,
you share with me.
This night is wild,
so calm and dull,
these hearts they race,
from self control.
Your legs are smooth,
as they graze mine,
we're doing fine,
we're doing...

This song is about two people sharing one of the best dates ever. He remembers all of the little details of that night that make it the best night of his life. The sound of the stero, the dim of the lights, her hair, and when they relized that it was so late because they were having such a good time together. This song is great.

I think this song is about a guy who loves this girl very much and he doesn't care if the kiss kills him. At the end of the night he DOES kiss her. I really like this song because of how much Chris goes into detail about the date. It shows that it meant a lot to him.
-
The guy has been pursing the girl for a while and she's finally coming around. It's almost like it's a forbidden relationship how he's talking about the best day of his life and he's just taking in every moment: the sound of the stereo, the smell of her hair. Its like he's worked so hard for her and now he's finally getting it. Great song.

This song is about losing your virginity. They have kissed before, the line "my hopes are so high" refers to the first time having sex. This is also refenced in the line "so we can get some."
The title hands down isn't meant to be taken literally, it has nothing to do with his hands, the phrase hands down means without competition, as in this is clearly the best day of his life. -
This song is about the emotional and physical connection that the writer and his girlfriend have. Some of you are saying that it is about the first time they kiss, but if you look closer it isn't. They clearly haven't only kissed, they have slept together. "The words are hushed lets not get busted/just lay entwined here/undiscovered/safe in here from all the stupid questions/'hey did you get some?'/man that is so dumb/stay quiet stay near stay close they can't hear/so we can get some"
He basically says his heart belongs to her, communicating his emotnional attachment to her. Ultimately he is just replaying that day with the girl over in his mind. good song. -
Actually it's about the best day of his life. He says it everytime he performs this song.
