Maroon 5: She Will Be Loved Meaning
Song Released: 2004
She Will Be Loved Lyrics
She had some trouble with herself
He was always there to help her She always belonged to someone else
I drove for miles and miles
And wound up at your door
I've had you so many times but somehow
I want...

I thought It was about a girl looking to find love from many other guy's. Because she doesn't feel that she is worthy or deserving of such passionate, committed love, and the amount that one guy can care for her. That's why she thinks she needs many other's to partially fulfill that deep void within herself. That's why "she always belonged to someone else" as in she was always with someone else; searching for the love that only he had, and was trying to give her all along. I think she is also very insecure, at time's when she is he is 'cause he can't be strong for the both of them, but his love carries on. Since she's insecure that's why he says "I want to make you feel beautiful" because just like she doesn't feel worthy of his love she doesn't think she's beautiful. Even if he tells her it won't matter 'cause she won't believe it's true. She depends on feelings alone ,and how she's feeling propels her decisions, not the fact's. I think she is afraid to believe what she thinks is to good to be true; like it's a fairy tale that is fake and will float away. That's why she can't allow herself to love this guy. But she secretly does...
I got confused when I watched the video; "there was the beauty queen of only eighteen" then there was one who resembled an forty year old version of the eighteen year old. So in it he started out with the eighteen year old, then it shows the older one being pushed around and yelled at by a man (probably her boyfriend, but he looked to be like 75). So the original guy, he looks young like late twenties; he goes over to the older woman passed out on the floor and start's kissing her. It goes on to show both ladies going down the street together (they looked like mother and daughter), then the younger one in his apartment, and the older one parked on the street below outside the window. It goes on to show the younger man, and both ladies at a bar as he's dancing with one it switches back to the other...
About the rainbows and butterflies I think he's saying feeling's are'nt dependable, and not everything comes easy, or is smooth sailing. Some things you have to fight for, and compromise for to make it work at all, if you want it bad enough. But you won't always feel happy and good inside. But when you truly love you will love through the sorrow of the fight. And see the bigger picture; that there's so much more.
So I was thinking is he a player? Are they mother and daughter? Which one is the one he's always "caught when she fell" and loved? Do the two ladies represent they same girl, just representing the time going by...
I conclude that he's loved one woman all along, but it took her a long time to realize and accept that love. Then to allow herself to fully feel the same way. :D Sorry this was long. -
I think this song of a girl who this boy knew scince high school, she was always really insecure and was always dating the jocks and popular guys to make herself feel better. The guys would always hurt her and then she'd come running to her bff, who is the boy, to cry her eyes out.
Then one day he drove to her house because she was heartbroken and they slept together, that then became her default detting. Then everafter that became their deal, shed get a broken heart, and hed end up sleeping with her to heal her up a bit. Thats why he says "Tap on my window knock on my door/ I want to make you feel beautiful" Hes telling her your broken again come here ill put you back together onece again. Then he says "It's not always rainbows and butterflies/ It's compromise that moves us along" he's refering that there's no true love from her part, but its that unspoken compromise that always brings them back together. when he says "Please don't try so hard to say goodbye" he means don't say goodbye because you know we'll be together again soon, its just one more heartbreak away. -
I know how this gets. Ive been in this same situation with this girl for a couple of years now.
Honestly, I don't care if I am hers or vice versa. As long as she is happy I'm all for it.
Cyndal. Always <3. -
I personally would have to say that when ever you hear a song no matter what the song is you can relate it to your life.
I think this song is from a guys point of view singing to a girl that he has always loved, but she was always treated badly. He was always there for her whenever she needed him, and she always knew she could count on him, through thick and thin. He always had his hand and heart within reach to her. This girl was just any other girl she had substance and was deep, and that meant everything to him. In the end she realized that he was there and she always did love him:) -
I know the meaning of this song completely. Right now, I have a gf and she's hot, and I have another girl who likes me that isn't the most attractive, I think that when he says "and she will be loved" he is referring to the not attractive girl, and that even though she likes u u don't like her back, the girl that likes me that isn't my gf has never had a bf, and that she will find someone who cares about her someday.
-
I think in a more general light the meaning could be: Love is complicated, it can be many things and come from the most unexpected of people. Hence,"It's not always rainbows and butterflies, it's compromise, it moves us along".

This is my interpretation of the song from my experience. I had a girlfriend we were in love, for me she was a beauty queen, in my eyes the most beautiful girl in the world. It was a long distance relationship and she broke up with me, telling me she doesn't know what she wants and that I'm not always there. we were on and off, she kept wanting to see other guys never belong to me; always to another (I had her so many times but I still wanted more). maybe it was the long distance, but most of the time it was her insecurity and need to always want to feel loved by somebody, anybody. I drove to her house which was miles away to see her, whenever she was sad I would always make her happy. she put me through some shit(I was very insecure and felt she will always keep leaving with other guys). of course I had other gfs too but I broke up with them as soon as I saw her broken smile, and would pick her right back up when she would fall. I still managed to stay there and love her; out on her corner in the pouring rain if I had to. I know everything that makes her who she is, and understand why she is always confused and is always searching for somebody to love her. she will always be loved by me and maybe one day she will see that no one else in the world will love her the way I do.
We are now together again for the 5th time, maybe the 5th time is the charm. all that matters is that I still love her :)
In relationships it's not always rainbows and butterflies, its compromise that keep relationships going. If you love her, and only her, she is still worth trying to win back again. -
In the music video, there is a guy dating a younger girl. The girl's mother is young and beautiful, and is married to a rich older man who abuses her. The guy who is dating her daughter sees this and cares for the mother, and finally chooses her over her daughter.

This isn't a interpretation, but I wanted to share my situation : I came across this song coz maroon 5 is the favourite band of the girl I love since we were 10 yrs old. But she rather hated me when she heard I liked her. I'm 21 now, single but still in love with her. But I screwed myself big time as I was laid once & did other stuffs. I came to know she is in a relationship now but I can't stop loving her. The fact that I won't be loved by her doesn't matter to me coz I'm already forsaken & I don't cherish unrealistic hopes. Though I curse myself, just can't help loving her. This song just brews up memories & pain ... sorry u had to read this crazy crap story.

I think this song is about a girl and this guy who is dating her and they in love and he don't mind spend everyday with her and it's about a girl with a broke smile and he said to say with him for awhile and he knows her and they always be there for each other that what the song is about.

I always figured the song was about a girl who'd gone off the rails a bit - was beautiful, popular etc., but sort of screwed up young because of it - and was sleeping around, a lot. She's obviously got some issues, but she hides them; and the guy doing the singing, who I always pegged as one in a long line of people having a relationship with the girl (that's to say sleeping with her, nothing more) actually cares for her way beyond sex. He's obviously slept with her a lot, and is aware that so have a lot of other people; but he is prepared, and determined, to love her beyond that. Every time she 'falls' - & who knows what that involves? - he's there to sort her out, and it sounds like it's happened over and over. Maybe for her their relationship is comfort and nothing else; for him, it is (or he'd like it to be) a lot more. Her life is a mess, and she knows it and so does he, but even though it's not going to be a fairytale romance - no rainbows or butterflies - he's there for her, and he wants her to be his, and for everything to be ok for her. I think he just wants to be able to love her, uninterrupted.
Having said that I just watched the video for the first time and it is nothing like my interpretation! So hey ho, who knows? Isn't it odd how you can listen to a song and get it fixed in your head that it's about something in particular, only to find out that the artists' view of it is completely different...?
I like my version better though ;) -
I agree with the prostitute theory. But I don't understand why there are 2 women--the 18 year old and the older woman? Are they supposed to be the same person somehow? I don't think so, but then who are they? What do they each symbolize?
-
I LOVE this song but one thing confuses me. Why does the song start by talking in third person and then switch half way through the first verse into first person for the remainder of the song??? Anyone have any ideas?
-
I think it is the younger gir's mother he is having a affair with!
-
I'd have to go with the prostitute theory even thought I kinda wish it wasnt. Line by line though sounds like it
