Owl City: Meteor Shower Meaning
Meteor Shower Lyrics
That you're right there beside me,
I am my not own,
For I have been made new,
Please don't let me go,
I desperately need You,
I am not my own
For I have been made new
Please don't let me go,
I desperately need You

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 says "You are not your own, you were bought at a price." Once a person realizes that their sin keeps them away from God, and asks Jesus to forgive them (Jesus died on the cross to take the punishment that such sin deserves), they give the "steering wheel" to God and allow Him to direct the way they live now. They realize that God offers the most fulfilling life. They realize that Jesus sacrificed His very life in order to take away the sin that made us far from God. Jesus died for us, thus we ought to give control of our life back to God.
"I have been made new."
1 Corinthians 5:17 in the Bible says, "Therefore if anyone is in Christ he is a new creation." Once a person decides to live for God, their life changes. It is like their life is new. New habits, new thoughts, new eternal destiny, new hope, new joy, new creativity and purpose. -

#3 top rated interpretation:I believe he's talking about Christ and how when your made new in Christ that you no longer live for you, you live for Christ and what He has in store for your life and how we all need Christ because he is the ultimat planner and knows our future. The Bible says for I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord. -Jeramiah 29:11

I think he is referring to God, he is talking about been new in Christ and he needing God in step of his life.

Who he is talking about is all about the listener. This song is not like Lonely Lullaby. There is no definate referance of any being. This is why art is so beautiful. It has infinate meaning. A song is like a picture. It has 1000 words. Even in the case of Meteor Shower, which is a very short song. It paints a picture into your head. -Tomoya

I've heard this song is actually about Vanilla Coke. And I suppose it does make sense if you break it down.
"I can finally see,
That you're right there beside me"
He looks over, and finds his can of the sweet and delicious flavored carbonated soda.
"I am my not own,
For I have been anew"
How does sugar effect you? Usually, we obtain something called a sugar rush. When we are on this Sugar Rush, what happens? We normally do not act the same. In fact. We act as though we have been pumped up with immense energy with which we believe we cannot contain fully.
"Please don't let me go,
I desperately need You"
When our rush begins to fade, if we were occupying ourselves with something we truly and desperately wish to complete. He reaches over to his lonesome companion, but alas, he finds she is an empty shell...and he hasn't the time, nor the remaining ounce of energy, to find another. He begs and pleads that she stays, but she has long since been gone. Heartbroken, he seeks to repeat himself, hoping perhaps she'll take the time to continue to listen to his fading dribble and return to aid him in his previous quest. Still, all he gets in return, is a dim silence as the lights fade, and he finds himself waking up the next day, previous project abandoned, and his empty shell still lingering. -
It's obvious he's talking to God. I have been made new refers to his Christianity, obviously.

Short song.
I think that perhaps, he is talking to God or someone he really loves saying that he really needs that person
