Owl City: Silhouette Meaning
Silhouette Lyrics
'Cause I can't put to bed these phobias and fears
I'm new to this grief I can't explain
But I'm no stranger to the heartache and the pain
The fire I began is burning me alive
But I know better than to leave...
-
"I'm tired of waking up in tears
Cause I can't put to bed these phobias and fears" this could be talking about someone with anxiety or heartbroken/ upset.
"I'm new to this grief, I can't explain but I'm no stranger to, the heartache and the pain" this could mean someone who is/ was depressed falling for someone or getting their hopes too high.
"The fire I began is burning me alive
But I know better than to leave and let it die" this sounds like a reference to his other song 'Embers' where it talks about not letting the fire die (fire being the 'spark' you feel with someone)
"I'm a silhouette, asking every now and then is it over yet? Will I ever feel again?" this person feels so empty and alone they dont know what to feel or do at this point
"I'm a silhouette, chasing rainbows on my own but the more I try to move on, the more I feel alone" this person has been heartbroken so many times that theyre afraid to move on and feel the same way again
"So I watch the summer stars to lead me home" it sounds like this person is really upset
"I'm sick of the past I can't erase
A jumble of footprints, and hasty steps I can't retrace" they dont know where the relationship went wrong or what they did.
"The mountain of things I still regret
Is a vile reminder that I would rather just forget (No matter where I go)" theyd rather forget what they did wrong or that the relationship happened in the first place"
*Chorus*
"Cause I walk alone (No matter where I go)" this person feels so alone even with other people around them
"...Is it over yet? Will I ever smile again?...Is it over yet? Will I ever love again?" this person is not sure that theyll ever find love again -
