Three Days Grace: Pain Meaning
Song Released: 2006
Pain Lyrics
Pain, I can't get enough
Pain, I like it rough
'Cause I'd rather feel pain than nothing at all
You're sick of feeling numb
You're not the only one
I'll take you by the hand
And I'll show you a world that you can...

There are plenty of interpretations one being depression, the other about Adam (lead singer) being an addict to oxycontin. Being an ex-addict to prescription pills myself, you can tell exactly what Adam means in the song. "I'd rather feel pain than nothing at all" He would rather go through withdrawal and feel the awful pain of that than being numb by the drug. "Pain without love" Loving the drug or the feeling of being numb and happy..."anger and agony are better than misery" Look up withdrawal symptoms of oxycontin or prescription pills in general and then re-read the lyrics of the song. The drugs make you miserable. It makes complete sense and I listened to this while I was going through the same thing as Adam. "I'll show you a world that you can understand" A world without drugs.
Seems like many of these people interpret this song about cutting, which I'm not saying is wrong because cutting can go with depression. Just read the articles and interviews with Adam about the song and you'll see the real meaning. -
I say it is about sex thts y it says when the lights go out ull understand and its obviously about a relationship and its like rough sex w no love...and hed rathe have pain then no feeling of love at alll....duuuuhhhh

This song is about a guy who is so in love with a women that it is killing him. Most likely because she doesn't have the same feelings, probably because she had been hurt in the past which ties into the pain concept. Remember the song is always saying "You know, You know!" So the singer is talking to the girl either in person or via phone.

ok people what's is so wrong with emo people?!?! we don't just go ''oh i wanna cut myself'' we feel emotional, physical or any other kind of pain, we don't kno what to do cuz we don't want to tell any1 cuz they can't help so we cut to actually feel something. so for all you people who keep sayin crap about emo people, stfu. this song is about drugs and all pain, every1 has theyre intepretation and you need to watch what you say cause every1 has feelings ok??

Too be honest I think the meaning that is for every one in this song is at least you CAN feel, even if it is pain, and pain is better then death or nothing at all yet still be alive. But I guess the reason the song is around is because after the lead singer stopes using those pain killer drugs and started to feel again (the drugs made him numb) he relized that the pain he felt that made him take drugs was better the A. Being dead B. Being numb yet alive (which too me makes me think it feels like I am a zombie) so yea. Three Days Grace forever.

I also think that this song is all about depression. ROCK ON THREE DAYS GRACE!!

I dunno when I first heard it it seemed pretty obviously to be about S & M
-
The song isnt about sex or cutting. Its about a drug he was on becuz he was quitting oxycotin but the drug made him completely numb and while he was quitting, he was in extreme pain. What the song means is, he rather feel that pain, than be completely numb.

Definitely all about the rough sex. I'm a healthy, sane human being with a job and all that. But I'm into hardcore S&M. Bruises, bleeding, crosses, suspension... and this song feels like it screams that out to me and gives how I feel a voice. But one of the many great things about music is any song spark an emotion and have a meaning for one person that it may not have for anyone else. Just my two cents. :)

I think this song IS about physical pain..."can't get enough" doesn't have to refer to sex, I have an emo friend who cuts because she's not only depressed, she's addicted to the pain.
I think there is some sex related content in it, like it's the only way he can get rid of the pain...
Can't be sure though, and as for people who say he talks about it on YouTube, there's a small chance that that's actually what the song's about. -
i think this song is about an unhealthy relationship. when your with the person, you feel nothing because of no feelings, boredom, unhappiness because the relationship is unhealthy. but to let this person go or break up with them will hurt, but being hurt is better then being unhappy.
-
I think the song is about being in an abusive relationship where you know the person doesn't love you, but you love them, so you stay because you think that if they won't give you love that pain will have to be enough.
-
This song (from my understanding) is that, pain and love come in all sorts of ways. maybe physical pain or emotional pain, hell it maybe even sexual as this song may throw it into with its line "when the lights go off you will understand" but to think out side of the box for a minute. I think it also means if you go through life without any pain at all, then what have you really gone through?
