   This song is about depression. When you're depression you feel emotionless and numb to everything around you, the only real emotion you feel is sadness. "Anger and agony are better than misery" pretty much sums it up.

   Not sure why so many of you are obsessed with cutting. just because someone writes a song about pain doesn't mean it has to be physical. I think it's ridiculous that the majority of people who have posted here are so obsessed with this "the song is about cutting" theory. Is our world really that desperate to see someone hurt themselves? or is it just that there are a few people who don't know how to cope so they cut and need to justify it by imagining that someone else, everyone else, is in the same boat. I hate to burst everyone's sadomasochistic bubble but not everything has to be that transparent. So please, people... enough with the cutting theories. why don't you take out that mental wall you've built and dive a little deeper for your interpretation. personally I agree with the interpretation submitted 1/17/2007. There are 2 "voices" in this song. The calmer, rational "I know this isn't right and I want to change it" side... and the more intense, passionate "this is the only thing I know and even though it hurts me I'm scared to let go." think about it. There's a message within the music. not just the lyrics. lyrics are only one part of a song.

   I think it's pretty simple. Guys tend to get cold when a realtionship starts to become habit instead of everything that it once was. So after this part of the relationship begins to set in where the guy no longer cares about the female. The guy will just stay in the relationship maybe for the fear of truely hurting the other person. Each day goes by and the female just pushes him colder and colder maybe by annoyance or just attitude. Eventually the male will just go into a complete cold state and wonder why he stays in the relationship and what the hell he is doing. The song talks about pain and how he'd rather feel pain than nothing at all. He basically is just having rough sex with this person who he is now cold and feels nothing but pain. He realizes that there is no love so he decides pain is better than nothing at all.

    It's pretty obvious to a masochist like me. This is a masochist song, and involves sexual masochism and possibly physical and emotional as well. The sexual is very very clear: "pain without love" and "when the lights go off you will understand". It also contains a bit of sadism, as the words indicate its someone who loves pain inflicting pain on someone else who likes pain. In other words, its the best song ever^^!!!

    I think this is about not understanding the world and why people cut because they don't have some1 to tell them stop hurting yourself. And he is saying that he is so numb the only thing he feels is when he cuts and and he hurt himself. I belive that he want to be mad and angry because he is soo sad he is alone and doesn't have any1 to love him and tell him that they care.

    I think this is meaning he's been hurting himself.. So that he feels that he's alive... It makes it to where he knows he alive because cuttin drugs anything that may cause him pain... He feels it helps him... and he sees someone else that's going through something along the same lines as him... "You're sick of feeling numb
