5 Seconds of Summer: Independence Day Meaning
Independence Day Lyrics
That I need to change
If you’re not livin’ my life for me
Make you feel that way
You know you know, we're losing control
I gotta break away, or nothing’s gonna change
You got to go, it’s the end of the...

I think that it is about a guy who was in a bad relationship and the girl wasnt treating him right so he left her and he is glad that he did it
Also it could be a metaphor for when the members of the band dropped out of school saying that it is their indipendence day from school and how it was controlling them and it says that they are over it and that it was controlling them and “waisting their life away” and it is saying that they are glad that they dropped out -
A boy is sick of being told what to do and how to do things by his girlfriend. He wants to be free from her so he breaks it off. In verse 2 it says 'And now my pictures looking perfect since your not in the frame' He is glad that she's gone and he is happier now than he was then.

imo it's about a guy who's ready to move on. he's done with the relationship, being told what to do, how to do it and when to do it. the relationship is spiraling out of control and he knows that the only way to stop it is to leave.
