Blink-182: Adam's Song Meaning
Song Released: 2000
Adam's Song Lyrics
I laughed the loudest who'd have known
I traced the cord back to the wall
No wonder it was never plugged in at all
I took my time, I hurried up
The choice was mine, I didn't think enough
I'm too...
-
I used to want to kill myself.
Now I deal with it, in anyway, without self violence. -
On the one hand I feel it's unnecessary me posting here, but on the other there are so many stupid interpretations that maybe I should clear a couple of things up.
Firstly, where the hell did people get this idea that Adam was a former band member? My particular favourite comment was the one that read "research previous blink182 members...Adam was the founder, he killed himself due to alcoholism and being kicked out by Mark and Tom". Scott Raynor is the only former member, there was no Adam.
Secondly, this whole "Adam's Letter" link to blink-182 is BS. If any of the morons spouting this rubbish that "Adam Krieger" was the influence for Adam's Song had actually clicked "enter" on adamsletter.com and gone to the about page, they would have seen the following statement:
"Adam’s Letter is a work of fiction. There is no such person as Adam, nor is the author aware of this sort of story ever happening in real life. And no, Adam Krieger was not the inspiration for Blink 182's song "Adam's Song," or vice versa. Any resemblance between the characters, places, and events to any real people is purely coincidental."
Unfortunately it's just yet another example of people seeing something and jumping to conclusions.
Oh, and Adam Krieger was a 17th century German composer :P -
the top interpretation is the one that is true. Adam is not a former band member you tools. the song is about a kid who wrote blink with his sad story of suicide. and it impacted blink so much that they tributed it to him, adam. That there is always a better way then suicide.

This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway

I was on the verge of my own suicide..... Ironically, this was the song that helped me get through it.... Mark, Tom, Travis..... I owe you guys so much..... Thanks

I thinks this song may be more about suicide. The 1st stanza says it all. and on the lines
"I took my time, I hurried up
The choice was mine, I didn't think enough
I'm too depressed, to go on
You'll be sorry when I'm gone"
and
"Remember the time that I spilled the cup
Of apple juice in the hall
Please tell mom this is not her fault"
He wants the people to know that whatever he did or why he did it, it was because he decided to do it. People may tend to blame everyone but themselves when they commit suicide, but no, not him.
This song also wants us to just take life easy, don't rush things. life is beautiful, and it get better everyday, as long as you're alive. -
This song IS ABOUT SUICIDE here is the link to read the actual letter http://www.adamsletter.com/

This song has to do with the original band member, Adam, before he turned to alcoholism and was kicked out of the band by mark and tom. Adam committed suicide when blink got big, blink did not want to publicize this fact since adam was only a part of the band when they were just coming up.
Adam and Scott were two members kicked out by Tom and Mark. Adam actually founded the band blink182 that is now defunct, except under a different name. Adam wrote them and told them he was ending his life and that he felt betrayed and had no reason to live...his dream was stolen.
This is Adam's song. research previous blink182 members...Adam was the founder, he killed himself due to alcoholism and being kicked out by Mark and Tom. -
OK maybe I'm the only one who read up on it. The song is about suicide. A young kid commited suicide but before doing so he wrote a letter. The letter his parents emailed the band. The band got together wrote the song.. This a mixature of how they feel on tour. Hence the part
"The tour was over we'd survived
I couldn't wait till I got home
To pass the time in my room alone"
the band being on tour they made it again. and can spend some time with out fans all over them.
this is one of the saddest songs out there. and its just sad how many people don't see the light at the end of the tunnel and do kill them selfs thinken it will help.
another song that proves death is not the way is Jeremy by pearl jam..
talken about a kid who killed him self in school. It's just as good -
This song is about suicide. There was a boy named Adam who was a blink182 fan. No one cared about him and had nothing in his life so he played this song and put it on repeat and hung himself in his garage. The boy Adam also wrote a suicide letter and gave it to his parents and then his parents or him sent it to the band in email and he hung himself.

Ok like people this song is about being about on tour I know the song suggests that he's thinking about committing suicide..but its not I learned about in English and it's just about him being on tour and how depressed he was.
-
The part of this song that I used to like- the guitar; is an almost exact ripoff of the into to Metallica's One. They're exactly the same, blink just took out one note and rhythm guitar. The lyrics, especially the apple juice line, are childish. I know it's supposed to be a metaphor, but it seems like it was just thrown in without much thought.

This song makes me appreciate life and how good I have it its also fucken RAD
