Blink-182: Adam's Song Meaning
Song Released: 2000
Adam's Song Lyrics
I laughed the loudest who'd have known
I traced the cord back to the wall
No wonder it was never plugged in at all
I took my time, I hurried up
The choice was mine, I didn't think enough
I'm too...

Blink wrote a song about Adam Krieger's suicide and suicide note. Very passionate lyrics, helped me get through a lot.
-
At first the song is extremely dark and seems 2 think suicide is a good choice, however in the song it said "Tomorrow held such better days, days when I still felt alive, couldn't wait to get outside" then right at the end of the song it says "Tomorrow HOLDS such better days, days when I still FEEL alive, and CAN'T wait 2 get outside" the tenses have changed from past tense 2 future tense, indicating "Adam" didn't commit suicide because one day his life will change 4 the better and things will work out. This song has helped me realize that many kids have depression and we must be. Friendly 2 every1 even outsiders, hell it could even save their life!! Pls comment on my article

THE SONG ISNT ABOUT ADAMS LETTER. it has nothing to do with it. adam kreiger isnt even a real person, hes a fictional character created to help kids going through depression. this is the website: http://www.righteousinsanity.com/adamsletter/abouttheplays.html
everyone stop saying it has to do with adams letter when the band even said it didnt! -
This is a good song. To people who have dealt with depression or bad days this is the song about that. There will always be better things to do than kill yourself. This song will stay with me forever . - Alex orosi

wow you people are retards, its not about Mark being depressed, or about someone ''being killed'', its about suicide. just look at the top 3 top rated comments and you'll understand. people saying other stuff are imply retarded. enough said.
-
I do believe that this song is most definitely about suicide, and all of you people who don't believe it is are just plain stupid... just saying!>:P
-
Dr.Wacko you are right except for one part Adam using the name of the boy but he is signifying a real person Blink 182 wrote the song after they got an email about a suicide note written by a 16 year old boy he wrote to his parents. I give you props and your interpretation but I had to make the other point known the song is based on a actual child who killed himself after life became to hard for him to handle.
-
It's a play that's called "Adam's Letter." There is no relation with the song and a kid committing suicide.
-
Its really Simple: Suicide and in particular its about teenage suicides. Im 19 now but I remember what it felt like being 15 or 16 and it really sucked. This song was definitley ment to reach out to those who wanna end it and help them cope with there horrible feelings

Adam was an amazing, caring person who did not deserve to die. He deserved to be cared about & loved. This song is about a boy who killed himself & I know that not only because I looked it up on Blink 182's website a few years ago, but because he is writing with feeling but not expressing it in life. He feels he can't express it in life because EVERYONE else around him is so uncaring & fake. He became a nerd because he cared & was smart, he wouldn't fit in with the popular kids. Adam didn't have problems, he killed himself because everyone else around him had problems. & the problems weren't being normal, because they were all normal people obviously because none of them could care about him other than to hurt him, the problems of the children was that they didn't care at all. They only cared about hurting him so THEY could feel something inside. He killed himself because he couldn't live in this world anymore of everyone around him being so negative & just doing whatever they can to fit it & not be happy while he was a sweet, caring, smart person who was better than all of them. That's why they brought him down. Rip ADAM KRIEGER, you made me see that I'm not the only one who felt like you did, but only you saved me from hurting myself because I know I can be caring & happy & not worry about everyone else feeling nothing, because you took you're own life to get away from feeling nothing & I'm gonna live for you. I'm gonna live happily to show everyone who Adam Kreiger is. I know you're not here anymore, but you will always be my hero. You are someone Adam, you saved my life. Rest in peace, I'll see you soon. <3
For everyone who doesn't understand why people commit suicide, well now you know. Maybe instead of talking bad about them like you did before they killed themselves, maybe you can start caring to make them feel better & yourselves. After all, the reason they're gone is because of everyday people like you. As for those who can care & feel & be happy, keep on going. <3 -
It's kind of eerie that these lyrics can now be applied to Blink-182's drummer Travis Barker who was good friends with the late Adam Goldstein better known as "DJ AM". Sometimes suicide can be slow, especially when you're addicted to drugs.

To all of you "know it alls" out there.
First of all, there is no such person as Adam. Infact, the suicide letter has nothing to do with the song "Adams Song". The suicide letter was written by someone to get teenagers to love each other. It's all made up. The song "Adams Song" was made before the suicide letter was written. What you guys are saying makes no sense what so ever. If you don't believe me go to www.adamsletter.com, it'll tell you all about it. -
Blink 182 are in no way punk. In fact, they're part of the stupid beast that killed it. You can't be punk just because you went and got a mohawk. Punk is about being disenfranchised, and hanging out with other people like yourself, doing it yourself, and being yorself. Blink 182 is what Jello Biafra (Lead Singer for the Dead Kennedys, ans you stupid Blink fans probably didn't know) would call 'Nazi Punks'.
And By the way, their logo looks like they took the Nirvana logo and diguised it so it would look original. -
This song is about suicide duh...
but really blink is trying to show how sometimes life can suck, especially as a kid, but suicide is never the right thing to do because there are always better times ahead of you "tommorow holds such better days, days when i can still feel alive, when i cant wait to get outside"
love this song! -
Hey, I just want to say that Adam Kreiger got his wish basically. He says at the end "The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few, or the one. I think by Adam inspiring Blink-182 to write this song he got his wish and really helped a lot of people just by his suicide letter. The song moves a lot of people and really connects with them. If it wouldn't have been for Adam's suicide then this song wouldn't have been made. I'm not saying suicide is the answer but i am saying that by Adam killing himself he really helped out tons of people because he inspired this song and this song makes people think about life and how much it means. I would just like to thank Adam Kreiger for inspiring this song and Blink - 182 for giving it hte feeling it has in it! Thank you!
