Disturbed: The Night Meaning
Song Released: 2009
The Night Lyrics
What madness taken hold of my heart
To run away the only answer
Pulling me away
To fall upon (The Night) the source of my recovery
Sweet shadow taken hold of my mind
Another day has been devoured
Calling me...

#1 top rated interpretation:"The Night is a living entity that intends to free you"-David Draiman. This song is basically about non-conformance and why you should just fuck the norm.

#3 top rated interpretation:I think he's talking about fear...once he takes the hand of the dark mistress (the night), lets his guard down (his armor), he'll be walking further away from his comfort zone (the light) and into the unknown and uncharted where he'll be free of the things he's allowing to hold him back and down and as this is happening it's taking him on a journey to understand things about himself that he obviously didn't know...finding a strength he obviously didn't realize he had.
"Are you going to be a slave for the rest of your life?" When you let fear and apprehension guide you become a fear to it, when you stop questioning and start doing you'll find yourself doing things you didn't realize you could. In essence, the night saves his life...

Personally I think it's about the lie that the light and the day is always a good and pure thing when it's always been the night that has saved us from everything the day has taken from us giving us the time we need to rest and the strength we need to face another day.

This song can be interpreted many different ways but personally I interpret the song in a more supernatural sense and also don't link it to modern times I feel like the story takes place in a mid-evil time and the main individual is suffering from a dark turmoil that he/she has had to keep bottled inside for the sake of his/her loved ones and has wanted to take a more righteous path for them but I picture the start of the song as a small army looking and laughing at the main character as he/she sees his/her loved as they lay on the floor while most are dead there is one that is dying in his/her arms and when the last breath leaves their body the individual unleashes all that bottled up turmoil and completely tears the small army to shreds hence the lyric "from saving me from all they've taken, letting my armor fall again, giving me the strength to face them, feeling it taking over now, on a path to take it all away" and I interpret "giving into the night" as to succumb to that dark and uncontainable strength to avenge those loved ones.... just my humble, personal and superstitious interpretation.

This song can be about what you want it to be about but what I thank is when life gets hard people thank that turning to the devil is the way because they cant take life and this song is giving you a point of view of what the people who thank this is thanking because I thank that the artiest who wrote this song went through this same thing so he wants people to understand these people more but I could be wrong because the only one who know the true meaning is the one who wrote this song so take it as you want to this is the way I take the song.

The night represents what you must embrace and walk though to free yourself from something that is destroying you. The night is difficult to go though but it's the only way out of your dilemma. The night is a difficult truth.
The night can be things like rehab, coming out as gay, abuse counseling, being saved by Jesus, leaving a gang. -
The night as a living entity. Hmmm. I wonder what that could mean. (Insert sarcastic tone) come on people! Wake up! Who wants to be like God but never can come close! The night, darkness, dark maiden, it's the devil he is talking about! Don't let him fool you. He is no savior. It is he who will enslave you and drag you with him. Following Jesus Christ does not make u a slave. Doing so frees you from dealing with all the bad stuff in the world by yourself. Leads you on the safe path till you get home which is not this empty she'll of a world we created by disobedience by the way. May the truth set you free. Your heart knows who to really follow. Follow him into the LIGHT and live forever. The night only promises death for an eternity.

It's about werewolves. The madness is the curse, he has to run so he's not killed and so he doesn't hurt anyone, and giving me the strength to face them means the wolf form.
-
This song actually speaks about the night as an entity that's a freeing thing, a liberating force as opposed to approaching it the typical way.
-
I think this song is about trying to fight the darkness and then giving up because it's too tempting.
-
I think this song is referring to the devil's temptations and. The person in the song is talking about "the source of my recovery" and "sweet shadow taken hold of my mind". Then it goes on to ask "are you gonna deny the savior in front of your eyes?". The way I see it, the sweet shadow taken hold of his mind is the devil and sin, and the savior is God, coming to save him. I agree with Dwryred, even if Satan takes hold of you, salvation is still within your grasp.

This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway
-
I think this song is a story. The first verse is when the "night" tries to tempt the main character and is denied. In-between the second verse and the third verse the character submits. In the second verse he makes an apeal to God but is called away by "haunting voices", and a "dark maiden" leads him farther into darkness and evil. In the third verse the character has become completely part of "The Night".

What the song is not taking about satan and god they are taking about the darkness. Telling you to fight the darkness.
-
I believe this song is about Satan's cunning ways of luring a person into his false pleasures, and how one can be so susceptible into falling under his control and never question why. But in the pre-chorus, David realizes that God helps him fight off his demons. He says: "Letting my armor fall again/ giving me the strength to face them." In the chorus, he goes on to basically say that even if Satan drags a person into the darkness of the night, one can still find God's salvation, saying: "Are you gonna deny the Savior in front of your eyes?/ Stare into the night."
-
I reckon that David is talking about knowing when to give up on things that aren't worth fighting for/against. Knowing when to give up, to put it bluntly.
thats what I reckon anyway. either way, good song. watch the music video on YouTube Now! DO IT !
