Disturbed: The Animal Meaning
Song Released: 2010
The Animal Lyrics
I can feel the animal inside
My resolve is weakening
Pounding at the doors of my mind
It's nearly overpowering
I cannot begin to describe
The hunger that I feel again
Run if you intend to survive
For the beast is coming to...

1TOP RATED
#1 top rated interpretation:This song is about the way David Drainman viewed himself after his girlfriend's suicide. If you watch some of the behind the scenes videos on youtube he explains all of the Asylum Album. He views himself as this animal because of his thoughts about the suicide and his own thoughts of doing the same thing. He became depressed and had some not so good thoughts, and instead of bottling it up inside, he wrote it down and eventually decided to make them into songs .

2TOP RATED
#2 top rated interpretation:The song is inspired by movies like underworld. It is not satanic. It's about a person being a werewolf and they love the power of the transformation stage. Why does it every time a song isn't about love someone always thinks it's satanic. It's a song about the power that an animal has, or is about to have. He explains it (rockband dlc). If you read the lyrics you will see that it's not satanic and that it's a transformation.

I could definitely see why someone would think this song is Satanic. I thought it was when I first listened to it. Then, as I listened to it more, I didn't think so as much. Sure, there is plenty talk of Hell in the song and lines like, "the animal soul is mine," but this, like any song, is interpereted based on the way the song crossed the listener's mind and whatever else is flying around in their head when they hear it. Really traditional Christians or Satanists could find this song to be Satanic, or about being possessed by a demon, or going to Hell. But heck, this could be about werewolves, or X-Man Wolverine, or even the Balrog from J.R.R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings. What I'm going to tell you is that I am a serious Christian, and I listen to this kind of metal in additon to other sub-genres, I listen to stuff worse than this, and I'm even in a metal band myself! Sure, I can see how people could take this as demonic, but I dont think it is.
-
Im porbably gunna get "ur goin 2 hell." Or. " I'm a christain which means if ur not u go to hell" and shit like that but. this song ain't about no relegion bullshit i mean iff U think so chill man i ain't splurtin all over the interweb that I dobt believe ib god and shit like that but I think its about a man/woman who's whole life has been treated like a dog and that eventually takes over. because what happenes when you hit an animal to much. it can kill u thats what

it is about how all people have a savage side (the animal) and sometimes it can take over
-
This song is very clearly about a werewolf/lycanthrope. The lady in the clip is trying to bait the werewolf, but fails.
-
This has nothing to do with Satanism or werewolves. It is about the anger he feels inside, how he can't control it any more.
-
You have to be some of the dumbest people ever. It says he is commiting an unholy crime in the song. I'm not saying that I care but it doesn't get much more satanic than that
-
The song wasn't inspired by Underworld. It was inspired by Wolfman, about a man who is literally a werewolf, enjoying the power he posesses.
-
this song is about the elation one gets from being a werewolf. plane and simple, no satanic overtones.if you look at the lyrics in the coda it makes total sense.
"we begin the hunt tonight, feel the power course as the creatures take flight for the kill is close tonight. Are you satisfied? for the smell of fear tonight, wakes an ancient lust that will not be denied. YOUR MINE!" -
Now!
*I can feel the animal inside
My resolve is weakening
Pounding at the doors of my mind
It's nearly overpowering
I cannot begin to describe
The hunger that I feel again
Run if you intend to survive
For the beast is coming to life
Taking form in the glimmer in this tainted moonlight
Death approaches on this night*
I think the song talks about something along the lines of werewolves. One thing that caught my eye about that was the moonlight part. Also, the video shows wolves. In stories, werewolves usually cannot control their hunger and sometimes cannot control when to transform. If you don't want to get eaten, run for your life.
*For the animal's soul is mine
We will be completed right before your eyes
I have no control this time
And now we both shall dine in Hell tonight*
The animal's soul probably means where his body shares the human and animal soul. Completed probably means transforming and again no control.
*I can hear it calling again
The primal need is filling me
Changes are about to begin
And now my blood is boiling
I can see the fear in your eyes
But you can't bring yourself to scream
Time to shed the mortal disguise
For the beast is coming to life
Taking form in the glimmer of this tainted moonlight
Death approaches on this night*
Changes = transforming.
*For the animal's soul is mine
We will be completed right before your eyes
I have no control this time
And now we both shall dine in Hell tonight*
*We begin the hunt and I
Feel the power course, as the creatures take flight
For the kill is close and I will be satisfied
For the smell of fear tonight
Wakes an ancient lust that will not be denied
You're mine*
After the kill takes place, he won't feel uncontrollable.
*For the animal's soul is mine
We will be completed right before your eyes
I have no control this time
And now we both shall dine in Hell tonight*
*For the animal's soul is mine
And the world around will never hear your cries
An unholy crime
And now we both shall dine in Hell tonight* -
Its about Lycans or Werewolves. Getting in touch with your inner animal.

Look,it is a song. Simple as that. It is meant to entertain, and it does a damn good job of it. Could there be hidden meanings and subliminal messages within the video itself? Absolutely. But only if you sit there and try to analyze it will it turn into a problem. There are much more disturbing music videos than this out there and we still watch them. Hell, most of us let our kids watch them. So quit bitching about if it's demonic or evil because God will be the one to make the final judgement. But in my opinion, he's rocking out to it too. Na ah na ah!
-
Can I please point out how idiotic you are claiming anything of a religious stand? David specifically said that the song was about a "werewolf". Simple as that.
-
I think this song is about lycanthropy, otherwise known as being a werewolf. the line "Taking form in the glimmer of this tainted moonlight" references the werewolves turning in the light of the full moon. "Shedding this mortal disguise" Could also reference this, since a werewolf is virtually immortal in animal form, but in human form is perfectly mortal and can be killed.
