#2 top rated interpretation:David Draiman leaves no doubt about the meaning of this song, both in his speech at the beginning of the video and his explanation during a live performance. It is on the topic of suicide, when walked in on his dead girlfriend wh had committed suicide during his earlier life. He seriously considered suicide himself, but felt he was being warned by voices in his head not to kill himself. Now he is passionate about warning others, discouraging them from taking their own lives and urging them to seek help. A very sad story. However, the music video actually led me to refrain from suicide myself, after my girlfriend, without warning, refused to speak to me and discuss it. Watching the video demonstrated to me the horror my suicide would throw onto others, especially those who found me, and I reconsidered. I forced myself to abandon suicidal measures, and continue my life. I sincerely hope that anyone who reads this entry who is having suicidal thoughts will consider the effects it will have on others, and decide not to take your life. You will permanently scar other human beings if you choose this path. It's a bad deal.

means that Devon was from of family
with eleven children.
Or maybe there were eleven suicides,
or overdoses, in town that year.
In reality, David's teen ex-girlfriend
died by overdose, not by hanging.
And her name was not really Devon. -
I love this song. I am battling an drug addiction and my demons and I have bipolar, anxiety, and manic depressant and having to deal with all of this everyday is like living in hell each day. But this song helps me cope. Several times I just about finally gave up and I'm feeling it again just about to give up I just tired living with all this pain and noone to turn too.... Thanks David for a kick ass song need more like this one! <3<3

It is a fact that David Draiman lost his girlfriend to suicide when he was 14 or 15, although I don't know whether or not he actually found her body. This song is told by the perspective of the devil telling him to kill himself to be with her.
I believe the lines "Devin, one of eleven, who had been rendered unwhole as a little child" refers to Devin's acceptance of Christ at the age of eleven. Of course the devil would count Devin's conversion a loss ("another lost soul"), and would try to manipulate David in his already weakened state. He would try and mock her by saying that her family didn't think she was "whole" until she accepted Christ, and make David doubt everything.
So by killing herself, the devil says, she nixed her chances of going to heaven (despite becoming a Christian at age eleven), which is why he wants David to come "into the fire" and join her in hell. -

This song was written because David's girlfriend committed suicide while they were together. However the song is not written from his perspective, it is written from the perspective of 'the Devil'. This can be seen with lines like "give your soul to me" and "take the word from one immortal". The 'devil' is speaking to David and trying to convince him to take his own life,and that is what is being shown in the lyrics.

The song is about Davids EX-girlfriend who had commited suicide. 'Devon' is not her real name it was just a nick name that David refers to her as. David stated in an interview that Devon was very troubled, and was doing drugs. David tried to help her as much as he could but nothing seemed to work so he broke up woth her. As a result she commited suicide. The parents of 'Devin' blamed David for her suicide and never forgiven him.
The song comes from the funeral of Devin. It was an open casket and as David looked over her body, he thought as if the devil was talking over his shoulder basically saying kill yourself and join devin in hell. This is shown in the lyrics from the lead up to the chorus and the chorus of which David is pretending to be the devil. -

the story behind this amazing song is that his girlfriend killed her self and he walked in on her dead. He tried to take his own life because of this loss and he did actually end up in a mental hospital much like the end of the video.

this song is about a guy who comes home to find that his girl friend is dead and so he feels so alone without her like he is the only one left in the world. so he gets up the nerve to battle with his mind between killing himself with a gun on the wall. at the end of the video as soon as he puts the gun in his mouth it cuts of to where he is in a strait jacket in a white room.
