Mayday Parade - Kids In Love Meaning

Kids In Love Lyrics
And my girl was the envy of every friend of mine,
She slept safely in my arms; we were so young and invincible.
Closed lips, she was never one to kiss and tell,
Those trips in the summer never went...

I think this song is about a teen guy that is looking back on a relationship he had during a summer and it was the best think in the world. it was perfect with their first kiss which "stole the breath" from his lips. It was the best summer of his life. But he thought that the relationship wasn't the best thing for him so he broke up with her and he regrets that desicion the moment he made it "how could i ask you to leave me?" Now he is trying to fix his mistake by trying to get back with the girl but it's too late and she didn't want him back. But he already knew this with the phrases "out of my reach" and "why did the last one tear us apart". He knows that she's lonely still and he wants to be the one who takes that away "we're falling down, can we pick up the pieces now?" This song is the story of my last year
