i think this song is about two exes talking to eachother about how their relationship ended. the boy is telling the girl that since she went away and would send him letters, he would use those letters for strength when he felt at his lowest. but now that they're not together, he doesn't know what to do and he feels horrible because he still loves and misses her. the reason he says "i'll be ok, is that what you want me to say?" is because even though she hurt him, he doesn't want to hurt him by saying he's falling apart inside. so he just ends up telling her what she wants to hear.
