Skillet: Hero Meaning
Song Released: 2010
Hero Lyrics
I'm just a breath away.
Losin' my faith today
(Fallin' off the edge today.)
I am just a man, not some superhuman.
(I'm not a superhuman.)
Someone save me from the hate.
It's just another war. Just another family...

#1 top rated interpretation:"this song is the platform over which the whole record was written. Basically every day seems to get weirder, darker and scarier with thousands of people losing their homes and hurting over a wide variety of reasons. You see so much negativity on the news, especially this sense of violence that’s getting really crazy. With all this going on, it’s easy to feel on the edge, but no matter how dark it gets, there’s always hope in a new day and staying positive is the first step. And when you boil it all down, Christ is the one who gives us a reason to live and He’s our "Hero" who’s fighting for all of this oppression and injustice."

#2 top rated interpretation:i think its a tribute about the everyday heroes in the music video it has the appearance of a soldier ,fireman ,a doctor ,and a policeman. it also says in the lyrics
"A hero's not afraid to give his life.
A hero's gonna save me just in time."
i think that means that everyday heroes and soldiers aren't afraid to die to help the people in need.
to me this song is very touching -
3TOP RATED
#3 top rated interpretation:I saw on a music website before that this song is based on Jesus being his hero. Skillet is, or used to be, a christian/rock band. He is losing his faith in things and Jesus is his hero.
-
Its about how Jesus, our lord, comes and rescues us from this ugly world and our tribulations. God is our savior and he protects us no matter what happens, if we believe. He is our God, and he always will save and protect us, being our hero.
-
Skillet is asking on GOD to himself, and others
-
Replace the "I" by a Christian and the "hero" by Jesus
-
I'm gonna fight for what's right.
Today I'm speaking my mind and if it kills me tonight.
(I will be ready to die.)
A hero's not afraid to give his life.
A hero's gonna save me just in time.
it's about someone who is scared but goes from "Lord save me" To "I will stand up for you lord even if it means I will die tonight. -
He is trying to say he's the hero even if he's not Superman but still has a hero inside of him because he says "I'v got a hero (I'v got a hero)living in me" and even if he is just a man he's going to do something about the problems he talks about at the beginning of the song he says and I quote "I'v got to make a stand but I am just a man (I'm not superhuman) My voice will be heard today" and he questions "who's ganna fight for whats right?" then he says "I'm going to fight for whats right today I'm speaking my mind and if it kills me tonight(I will be ready to die)a hero's going to give his life a hero's going to save me just in time" so all this is just telling us yes he is referring to himself but at the end he still needs a hero and I guess he's trying to hint us out as we should be advocates and fight for whats right by being hero's I guess and also in the video it shows firefighter, doctor, there might have been a solder in there too and police and there not super human nor have powers but they are like hero's because they save lives they fight for us and they fight for whats right they risk there lives for us and are willing to save there lives by doing what they do and I guess he's trying to tell us to do the same because if he's the hero and he fights for us but who's going to fight for him? that's why at the end he still says "I need a hero"
-
It is about being so broken by so much that you finaly realize that you can't handle it all on your own. You realize that you need a hero to save you. You finaly see that you need your savior, Jesus, and you break and give in to the power of God. You let him take you and be your hero.
-
it is about how we get so fed up with the world that we need our hero jesus to come and save us
-
This is about needing something more than yourself to live. It is aboout needing Christ to be your strength.
-
First, you should know that Skillet is a christian Band.
I'm just a step away.
I'm just a breath away.
Losin' my faith today
(Fallin' off the edge today.)
[Somebody is losing his Faith and control. He is very unsure, if it's right what he's doing.]
I am just a man, not some superhuman.
(I'm not a superhuman.)
Someone save me from the hate.
[He thinks he is no hero, although people calling him a hero.]
It's just another war. Just another family torn.
(Falling from my faith today.)
Just a step from the edge.
Just another day in the world we live.
[This could mean the military soldier, who are often treated as heros. But the writer is thinking he is only destroying and doesn't making good things. He's losing the faith in his doings.]
I need a hero to save me now.
I need a hero. (Save me now.)
I need a hero to save my life. A hero'll save me.
(Just in time.)
[The writer needs a hero, who saves him from his doings. He doesn't think that he is the hero, he needs a hero -> Jesus Christ]
I gotta fight today to live another day.
Speakin' my mind today
(My voice will be heard today.)
I've got to take a stand, but I am just a man.
(I'm not superhuman.)
My voice will be heard today.
[He wants to change his life. He wants his voice to be heard, so everybody knows that he is no hero and his doings aren't heroic.]
It's just another war. Just another family torn.
(My voice will be heard today.)
It's just another kill.
The countdown begins to destroy ourselves.
[Similar above, but more extreme. "It's just another kill" -> The life of an "enemy" in a war isn't treated like a life of an human being. It shows that it doesn't touches us, when we hear that soliders die. Additionally it says "the countdown begins to destroy ourselves", so that we are destroying ourselves with wars.]
I need a hero to save me now.
I need a hero. (Save me now.)
I need a hero to save my life. A hero'll save me.
(Just in time.)
I need a hero to save my life.
I need a hero just in time.
Save me just in time. Save me just in time.
[Same like above]
Who's gonna fight for what's right?
Who's gonna help us survive?
We're in the fight for our lives.
(And we're not ready to die.)
Who's gonna fight for the weak?
Who's gonna make 'em believe I've got a hero.
[The writer is asking, who will be the hero, because he doesn't see a hero. The text also says that we need the hero, because "we're not ready to die".]
(I've got a hero.)
Livin' in me.
I'm gonna fight for what's right.
Today I'm speaking my mind and if it kills me tonight.
(I will be ready to die.)
A hero's not afraid to give his life.
A hero's gonna save me just in time.
[The hero is living in him -> Jesus. He wants to change something and is ready to give his life and takes the power from his hero.]
I need a hero to save me now.
I need a hero (Save me now.)
I need a hero to save my life. A hero will save me.
(Just in time.)
I need a hero who's gonna fight for what's right, who's gonna help us survive.
I need a hero who's gonna fight for the weak, who's gonna make 'em believe.
I need a hero.
I need a hero.
A hero's gonna save me just in time.
This song has a very important meaning. I hope many people come to Christianity, because of this song. -
This song is about how he needs a hero to come and save him just in time. His hero being Jesus (Skillet is a Heavy Rock/Metal Christian Band),or for a typical person who isn't religous probably like a cop,firefighter,doctor,etc....
-
I read that the line "a hero's not afraid to give his life" is sung "a hero's not afraid to give His life", "His" as in God....
-
Note: I'm referring to the singer as "The individual" for two reasons. One: I'm really referring to anyone (and everyone) who has struggled/is struggling with religion. Two: It is important to notice that there is both a male and a female singer for this; men and women both struggle with religion.
The song is about an individual who is so fed up with the world, it is nearly impossible to believe that a loving, caring God could have left us in this horrible, tormented world. The individual has almost entirely given up on God, but knows that the world needs Christ to save it, and that the individual needs a personal Savior (Hero). The individual gives religion another chance, and turns to Christ. He becomes a Hero to the individual, and the individual realizes that Christ has already been the Hero of the world, and that now it is the individual's turn to speak his mind and tell others about Christ and what He did for the individual. -
The song is about the apparent helplessness of a man. He's distraught by the hatred (and its results, like war) that he seems to see everywhere around him. He knows it's morally wrong to just stand by and watch, but then again, he's more or less powerless. So he's waiting for a "hero" to help him. I guess this "hero" is actually a metaphor for his own inner strength: it will show itself just when he needs it the most.
-
In the first part of the song he says, “I’m just a step away, I’m just a breath away, Losing my faith today, falling off the edge today.” He is talking about how he is had enough with everything, he can’t take any of the nonsense that is being thrown into his life anymore. He wants it to all end because he’s on the edge of losing everything he knows.
In the middle of the song he starts to talk about how he needs a hero because if there isn’t someone who will step in the weak, the poor, and the things that are right in this world will be ignored. There are every day hero’s but he isn’t one of them but he can be, he’s only human as the rest of us are.
Toward the end of the song he is to the point he is not really begging but he is trying to say that if none will help us then we are all basically in trouble. There are times in everyone’s lives that we feel like we don’t belong or none loves us but a hero or an everyday hero like a friend or someone close to us, can help us with a obstacle in out life we are faced with. He is saying he need someone any one to help him before its to late, he doesn’t want to die and he’s not ready to die yet, the same goes for us all. -
It is about Christ being our hero the who will save us. Oh and Skillet is still a christian band.
