Alkaline Trio: Burn Meaning
Song Released: 2006
Burn Lyrics
Crashing inside you like motorbikes
We toss and turn, sleep so loud
Grind the teeth in our empty mouths
Our empty
There's a forest fire burning bright
Spreading quickly towards our last...

I think it does have to do with God and Sin. Temptation and all, that phrase "Like starving wolves counting sheep, we close our eyes pretending to sleep" definse it all for me. Religions have been infected by too many men´s personal morals, so we are told to obey certain rules, that should "make us better", but we´re fooling ourselves. Many of the things considered sins nowadays are entirely within our nature. Like desire. It´s a natural body reaction to desire a woman. It would, of course, be wrong to go and rape her for that reason, but if you desire her, and she happens to feel the same way about you, you´re just acting within your biological nature by giving in to that desire. Religion tells you that God expects you to fight that desire, yet, if he created you,and he´s really responsible for everything that happens, then he put that chemical burning inside of you that your brain translates as desire, he put that woman in your way, and expects you to say no?! It doesn´t make much sense that something as big as God would take such energy just to troll us around, or to "Test" us. We are bount to make mistakes if we really want to learn. Hell is not the eternal fire where you burn to pay for your sins long after you´ve commited them; Hell is that burning wall between you and that place where you need to be. If you make a mistake, you burn on it, right then and there. If you give in to desire as in the previous example, you don´t have to wait until you die to pay for it. If you have a girlfriend, you´ll lose her in this life, if the mentioned woman has herpes, you´ll get them right there. You´ll learn your lesson.
Maybe it´s not so much about God as it is about fear. The reason to stop from doing something shouldn´t be the fear of God; fear being the keyword here. Fear of God, of consequence, of punishment... whatever. Don´t let fear stop you. Everyone learns faster on fire. -
Actually yes it does. In an interview Matt Skiba said that this song is about living life the way you instead of living in fear of going to Hell. I believe his direct quote went something like "If I have to play it safe my whole life to end up in your paradise then I'm intending to Burn. Hence BURN. K?

Fuck god. This song has nothing to do with that.
-
I don't see a relationship falling apart, but the struggle to hide from God, and the the all around struggles that people have with god, either accepting or dealing with God.
-
It's about the feeling you get sometimes when things are falling apart (relationships maybe) and you know you could fix them if you want but you don't bother.

This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway
