Warbrain Lyrics

"Thoughts are the shadows of feelings, always darker, emptier, and simpler.
I don't care if they're fake or real, I just thank them for showing up at all.
I have black periods. Who does not? But they are not a part of me;
they are not a part...

    This song has nothing to do with the war. Buy the Remains CD/DVD and read the input by Skiba on the song.

    February 3rd 1959, an Iowa snowstorm kills Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and the Big Bopper. Storm of '59..."the day the music died".

    This song is about a soldier leaving for Iraq and how he/she knows that the reasons for the war are bullshit. Ie. "we hit the ground running on empty stories we'd been told."

    It's about the soldier saying goodbye to his girlfriend and kissing her in the driveway one last time.

    It's also about how Iraq is so much like Vietnam. The vietnam war started in 1959 -- "before the storm of '59"

    The narrator is reminiscing, because the "orld as we know it" appears to be falling apart around him. Put this any way you want, and in any context, but that's the basic idea. He's looking back at times he shared with a certain special someone and how they seem so good now, because an imminent disaster has been looming and is now pretty much upon them.

    This song was on the rock against bush compilation, where it could be interpreted as saying we saw the warning signs of 9/11 and the war on terror but did nothing, and now look how screwed up the world is. But at it's heart, the message is universal- looking back at what was in the face of what is.
