Alkaline Trio: You've Got So Far To Go Meaning
You've Got So Far To Go Lyrics
So tonight I'll raise my glass to us
'cause we've talked so much I think we filled this ashtray twice,
and I'm pretty sure we emptied every bottle in the place, so
Let's walk home, let's be...

i hear a very deep longing in the lyrics to this song. he is in love with a girl, but she doesn't know it. he hasn't told her how he feels. he imagined this perfect night with this girl, where they talked all night and everything went perfectly but then he remembered, it's all in his head. "way to go, forgot you've got so far to go" is him talking to himself. he hasn't even asked her out yet. hes "got so far to go" before he has that perfect night with her.

I feel this song is about falling for someone in the early stages of dating, and he wants to make love to her. But he stops himself because he doesn't want to ruin the relationship by having sex too early.

This is a simply beautiful song written by dan andriano, bassist of alk3. This song also has double meanings, like many other alk3 songs.
One of the meanings is dan expressing his love for someone. He feels like he wants to kiss her and love her freely but has many insecurities about himself and is scared to tell her.
Ex- lets walk home
lets be afraid
wanna grab you by the arm and kiss you...So hard
lets do it right under the street light
the 2nd meaning is also that he is insecure with her because of the age difference. There is a maturity link in this song as well.
Ex- way to go
way to go
forgot you've got so far, you've got so far to go
this could also be dan talking to himself, saying that he should go for it.
Either way this song is definitly one of my favorites and I can never get enough of it. It has a beautifully smooth bassline and a hummable beat. Love it.
