Alkaline Trio: Jaked On Green Beers Meaning
Jaked On Green Beers Lyrics
It's been a long time since I've been sad.
It's been a while since I've really spent time with you
Wish I could take back the times that I had.
The only thing that you ever really did for...
-
I´ve had those kind of friends too. Those "party" friends you hang out with, do lots of crazy stuff with and have epic moments of fun. After you grow a bit out of your recklessly drinking fase, they just don´t look for you that much, they´re not interested on much besides drinking. You even begin to realize, you spent most of your time together just talking about other parties you´re gotten wasted at. These are the kind of guys who can call you at 3am, to tell you they´re out of your home and take you out for a crazy trip, or hang up the phone on you when you tell them you can´t go out be cause your uncle just died. You´re just so into the party mode around them for so long, it tkes a while to notice that you have those people in your life. As you grow up, you get rid of them, and realize how terrible they were and how much time you wasted thinking of them as actual friends :-/
-
If you´ve been a party person in a moment of your life, you´ve had friends like this, you have fun with them, you go to parties with them, but they aren´t good friends, all they care about is getting wasted, if that means ripping you off, having you hold them from falling face on the toilet, and at the moment, you might think they are your friends until one day you stop and realize this guy (or girl) has never been there for anything besides you facilitating the means for them to get high or drunk. "there was a time when I thought you were a friend to me... I was probably just drunk" might be more literal than it seems. You´re better off without those people, it´s sometimes just hard to figure it out on time

I always took this song to be about addiction.
-
I have heard from people who know the band that this song was written when they were not happy with Vagrant Records and is about label head Rich Egan who was also their manager at the time.
-
I don't think this song has anything to do with a love or a girl. Just being friends with someone and being used and mistreated by them, and finally telling them you don't want anything to do with them anymore.
-
Obviously about falling for someone who wasn't interested in love. They used him for their habits, and fucked with his emotions. He is glad to be rid of her because she hurt him.
