Alkaline Trio: Mr Chainsaw Meaning
Mr Chainsaw Lyrics
Mr. Chainsaw
When was it that you lost your youth or traded
It for something more for them to use so jaded
Why is it that you never said
I love you more than just a friend
I pray this gridlock never ends
And when we get...

The reality of growing up after a rejection he can't get over. Not much to analyse here the ending literally says "In case your wondering I'm singing, about growing up and giving in" I don't think further spoon feeding is necessary

This song is about the death of the American dream. It's about the resignation to the fact that conformity is not only encouraged, but is really the only way to survive life unless you're someone born priveliged.
This song is anti-corporatism and anti-capitalism. It's an indictment of the work-until-you-die mantra in America, dehumanizing workers and forcing them to define themselves by their mundane, claustrophobic jobs sitting in cubicles all day.
Mr. Chainsaw is quite obviously a generalized pseudonym for fat cat CEOs who cut the leghs out from under American citizens for their own benefit.
Very powerful anti-capitalist anthem. -
Well skiba acually sings at the end of the song that he's singing about growing up and giving in, which he is. I guess it's obvious right? like he has a friend who only sees him that way but he wants more so when she's leaves he hopes it's for good so he can get over her cos its killing him. He mentions getting drunk and being lazy "theres nights that I can't even walk days I couldn't give a fuck"
Maybe it's when he left college and got a job that the reality of having to grow up fast hit him, as the first few lines suggest.Theres the lines where him or his friend kills the boy inside, and now only "cubicles will now surffice" a reference to drugs to take away the boredom of the 9-5? The line some say it's the roll of the dice I think they're wrong I know I'm right. could mean life is all chance and luck but he disagrees saying you have to make things happen or nothing will. He goes on a path of self distruction- smoking, drinking, drugs. Well that's my thoughts on the song anyway.
