Alkaline Trio: Stupid Kid Meaning
Song Released: 2001
Stupid Kid Lyrics
One of them was you for just a little while
You left me for dead so far away
I replaced you with fear and shame
You'll be happy on the day I die
There are things that used to make me laugh
But...

I don´t think this song is about a relationship that is far in the past, it´s more like that moment when you just got dumped, when you still love the person enough to hate her for not loving you anymore, it´s funny cause it´s kind of "childish" in its anger. It´s about being in a relationship that might not be working too well, and it hurts, but you don´t really want to leave, so when the other person makes that choice, you kinda know it´s your fault, but you still take it out on the other person, it´s about being in pain and finding the way out of that rage on your ex, going like "Oh yeah?? well you mean nothing to me anyway!!!" maybe you know you´re the one with the problem, but how come this person didn´t love you just as you were?? "you left me dead so far away, I replaced you with fear and shame" it´s like I was messed up, you made me better, but then you leave me, so I go back to being messed up, and the way to take out that rage is the "remember when I said I loved you? well, I take it back!!" yelling to the other person, actually trying to convince yourself that you don´t care, when you actually do.

This song is about skiba remembering a girl he used to go out with, and thinks about how he could ever love her.
Ex- remember when I said "I love you"?
Well, get it, I take it back!
I was just a stupid kid back then
I take back every word that I said
this song is also about skiba hating this girl [obviously] and stating that he was extremely stupid to ever like/love her because in the end she's obviously a whore =d.
This is my theme song! See my user name?!?

This to me seems fairly simple. It's about loving somebody at first but then as time passes realising that they're not the person you thought they were.
Or on a completely different note, it could just be a hateful reply to a break-up. A message to get back at somebody by saying 'I don't care, I never really loved you anyway'
