Eminem: Stan Meaning
Song Released: 2000
Stan Lyrics
Chorus: Dido
My tea's gone cold I'm wondering why I...
got out of bed at all
The morning rain clouds up my window...
and I can't see at all
And even if I could it'll all be gray,
but your picture on my wall
It reminds me, that...
-
I think that Stan is what Eminem meant as a "serious song" and that people need to lighten up.

I can't listen to this song without getting chills. This song was wrote years ago, dont get me wrong... marshal was big at the time, but in 2000, he was only really starting to get "BIG". I'm not a conspiracy theoriest but maybe... just maybe, this was a message to the illuminati group.
I just started universtiy, and im doing a first year english course. Our first unit is on poetry, I will have to address this song to my prof, and write a paper. i would be honoured to post it here.
stay frosty people, and never stop pondering. -
The first person to comment is 100% correct. Who is Stan? Their has to be a reason why Slim made his name Stan...It has to do with Slim. Their has to be a deeper meaning then just a fan that wrote to slim and he never wrote him back because he's busy. I bet theirs a bunch of people that wrote to him and never got replies..but they didn't drive off a bridge with his pregnant gf in the trunk! You're taking the song to literal and not thinking about the crazy rapper himself Eminiem. A master of deceiving. Maybe STAN stands for something..ya never know. Read and observe what the first anonymous commenter said, you might learn something.

Eminem has said in the past that this song is based on an over obsessive fan, he didn't kill himself, that's just the song, but he did threaten to, but yeah it was about a fan that wrote daily and was obsessive
-
This song is about a young adult named stan who writes letters to slim. These letters get lost for a while but when he finally does receive them, it is too late, as stan thinks that em has intentionally not responded, and so he commits suicide. All in all, I think that this song means that you have to keep on persevering, even through the tough times
-
Okay seriously? This was a REAL story it has nothing to do with Eminem's inner battle with himself. None of that stupid made-up shit. Stanley Mitchell drove off a bridge, his pregnant spouse in the trunk and he really had an obsession and really wrote those fan letters to Eminem. That is how he got his material for the song. He took real things that he said from the letter. I mean of course he re-worded it to make it rhyme but those are real things that he stated to Eminem.
And Eminem is right, he needed help. But it isn't his fault.
Eminem has his career, a bunch of other fan letters, concerts, recording, and his family to worry about.
I truly believe though, that when he got Eminem's letter he would have killed himself anyway, upset that he was basically calling him crazy. And he was. That wasn't his fault.
I feel bad for Stan and his wife. Obsession is a horrible thing indeed. -
The first guys got it right.. Everyone else is just repeating what was already said in the song
-
Stan is about a fan of Eminem who is obsessed with him. As the song progresses, it becomes clearer that Stan suffers from mental issues. Stan becomes frustrated because Eminem doesn't reply. In the last "letter" (his tape) Stan is drunk and drives off a bridge with his pregant girlfriend tied up in the trunk. Finally, after Stan is dead, Eminem finally replies.

This may have a relation to the song Kim. The message could be don't obsess over a person like how he obsessed over Kim, or really bad things could happen.
-
actually the true meaning of the song stan is that when you have a fan that is really obsessed with you and you dont write them back it makes you think did you have something to do with that of was it just another misunderstandinG.When stan was riding in the car he was saying that he was going to give slim his "last letter" thats when he realized that if he killed himself he wouldnt be able to send the tape so he slammed on his brakes but it was to late.when slim finally had the time towrite back he was talking about how the guy needed counseling then the news came on and he saw that the guy who killed himmsself on the new was indeed the person he was writing to. so in he end thats why he says the explicit word "damn" because he realized that he could have prevented all this from happening just by returning the letters of giving stan's little brother an autograph

This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway

"I read about your uncle Ronnie too, I'm sorry
I had a friend kill himself over some bitch who didn't want him."
Connection? -
The meaning of this song is this. As a teenager Marshall wrote letter's to his father, only to have these letters never replied to or even seen again/

It is not based on a true story, according to Eminem in an interview with VH1.
