Katy Perry: Not Like the Movies Meaning
Song Released: 2010
Not Like the Movies Lyrics
Like there was nothing wrong.
It didn't fit,
It wasn't right.
Wasn't just the size.
They say you know,
When you know.
I don't know.
I didn't feel
The fairytale feeling, no.
Am I a stupid girl
For even...

#1 top rated interpretation:This is most definately not about sex. It's about a proposal and she is having doubts. She says as a kid she expected the fairytale romance and the movie-like feelings. She explains that that is not true life, and each and every person will explain that real life is not like the movies and a fairy tale romance doesnt happen. Don't settle, but understand reality, and in the end it will become like the movies.

#2 top rated interpretation:In most (love) movies, there is a perfect ending. What she is saying is that you should wait for the right guy(if you don't see the signs, wait for it) who will give you that perfect movie ending(when he's the one, you'll come undone, and your world will stop spinning) that you deserve, and not fall for the wrong one who will end things wrong.

#3 top rated interpretation:This song is saying that you may kiss one hundred frogs before you find your prince, but eventually, you'll find him and everything will be perfect, just like a movie ending.
Verse one - (he put it on me ... Wasnt just the size) means that she was in a relationship with a boy where something just felt wrong, there was nothing wrong with him, he was a nice guy, but he wasn't the one she was looking for.
(they say you know when you know, I don't know) when you meet the 'one', you know it, and she was having doubts about the guy she was with)
(I didnt feel the fairytale feeling, and I a stupid girl for even dreaming that I could?) she is saying that with that boy, she didn't feel the happy, giddy feeling you feel when you are in love, and was she stupid for even thinking that there was a prince out there for her? (no)
Chorus - is saying that if your love isn't like the movie, where it feels right and both loves are 100% satisfied, then wait for the one that will make you feel like that, because you deserve it.
Verse two- is basically saying to wait for the boy who will be your perfect match, and don't waste your time on boys who don't matter
Verse three- is saying that she knows that her 'one' is out there, and will eventually find her -
This is from Teenage Dream so it's about sex and relationship.
The speaker, a young woman newly involved in a romantic relationship, is about to get physical for the first time. She's excited but also nervous and overwhelmed. Unsure of what to expect, she's processing a mix of feelings—wanting it but also feeling hesitant and uncertain. The experience doesn't quite meet her high hopes, leaving her disappointed or underwhelmed. She compares it to what she's seen in movies or porn, feeling unsatisfied with how it went.
She wonders if this partner is "the one" or even right for her. Despite doubts, she feels there's more to come, whether with this partner or someone else. She believes this isn't the end of the story but just the beginning, like a chapter in a story yet to unfold. -
I think her song is about her first time in a relationship and there is something not quite right about it. She wants someone who she is 100% certain about and will "finish her sentences".
-
I agree with past theories about the meaning of the song. She tried to make it seem like her feelings were perfect but it didn't fit. She is only looking for what she knows other people are lucky to have. She wants a man that makes her feel like a princess and "finishes her sentences". She feels like something is wrong, but it just takes time to find someone. Life isn't perfect, but love and lost love are just part of the journey! It is a great song
-
I think this song is about a girl who fell in love with someone who she barely knows. So she waits for him to come for her and love her back.
-
I personally have a few theories. My first one states that the first part of the song:
"He put it on me, I put it on
Like there was nothin' wrong
It didn't fit, it wasn't right
Wasn't just the size
Means that her glass slipper didn't fit like Cinderella's did.
My second theory is that she's talking about an engagement ring.
But the fact that she states:
Snow White said when I was young
One day, my prince will come so I'll wait for that date.
This ^ supports my original theory. This is also before her marriage. So these two factors lead me to conclude that the beginning is about her own version of Cinderella. Thank you -
This song may be about a girl and her boyfriend proposing to her but she doesn't feel the 'magic' like in the movies, and she's worrying about rather this is a stage or she isn't really in love.
Beautiful song. -
If you listen to the first few lyrics of the song (he put it on me I put it on like there was nothing wrong it didn't fit it wasn't right) she is conducting her own story of Cinderella but it this case gone wrong. Then she goes on to say (they say you know when you know i don't know) meaning that she doesn't know when she will ever find the right guy to love her forever and that the fairy tale that Cinderella has is that her prince will come and he'll be the right guy (i didn't feel the fairy tale feeling, am i a stupid girl for even dreaming?)

if your love isnt like that movies. then dont rush into it. wait until its like the movies.. heres what katy says on it.

This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway
-
She's saying that you hope that it's going to be just like the movies, but it isn't in reality, and that is just fine. It's still amazing and worthy of " When he's the one,
You'll come undone,
And your world will stop spinning,
And it's just the beginning." - the last stanza, fifth line- 'will' is incorrect. 'should' is what she sang. -
I think it's about her boyfriend proposing to her ad she's not sure but she just goes along with it anyway and u shouldn't settle for just anyone you should wait for that guy who makes the world stop spinning everytime you see him. You need to find your other half, your perfect guy, the one who gives you butterflies.
-
I think it's about her first time having sex and it wasn't all magical like the movies. She thinks she should've waited because the right guy is out there for her and she should've saved herself for him
-
I think she meant: if some things aren't perfect in a relationship- its okay. If it's not like the movies, thats how it should be.
