Katy Perry: Pearl Meaning
Pearl Lyrics
But with him she's just a grain of sand
This love's too strong like mice and men
Squeezing out the life that should be laid in
She was a hurricane-cane-cane-cane
But now she's just a gust of wind
She used to set the sails...

#1 top rated interpretation:I don't think, that the song is about a girl's relationship. Not so simple.
Katy Perry was under contract with a record company at first, who wanted to control her, form her and opress her.
"She is a pyramid -
But with him (metaphor for the record company) she's just a grain of sand"
Under contract she should be like all the others. She shouldn't be a special. The company tried to get her a little bit like singer A and a little bit like band B.
"But he's scared of the light that's inside of her -
So he keeps her in the dark"
The old record company knew about her potential but they didn't want her to blossom herself. They knew that she would be a big star with an contract with someone else who could give her place to develop.
"Yeah, she used to rule the world, oh"
Katy Perry also is talking about her biggest wish is sing on stage and see all the people smile. Her intention to be a singer wasn't the money. It is the people.
"She was unstoppable" - Her dreams were big and maybe a little childish in the dimensions, but she had big plans for her career. After beeing under contract with the first record company she was stopped immediately.
"Do you know that there's a way out" - an employee from the company wanted to help her, stole all her documents and sent them to another record company. She was able to cancel the old contract and get under contract with the new company where she is today.
"Yeah, I let him rule my world, my world, oh yeah" - The whole song she was telling the story in third person. But at the end she applied all the lines on herself. It's her story.
I think she comes to terms with her critically experience in music industries with "Pearl".
(English isn't my native language. I hope you're able to understand me) -
I think this song is about a young girl with hopes and dreams who meets a boy her age who only loves her for what he can get from her. She used to do great things in life and now is kept In the dark in an abusive relationship.
-
The song is actually based off of Curley's Wife in Of Mice and Men and how women in society are treated.
-
It's about a girl in abusive relationship, he makes her feel low everyday. She's always sad and depressed because he's been holding her down and treating her like crap when she deserved better. At the the end she realizes that there is away out of the abusive relationship that she was in and she realizes that she's a strong and independent woman and doesn't deserve to be held down and she stands up for herself and is a pearl!!
-
Pearl has a clear meaning. It is about a girl who is in love with a boy who seems to be holding her back without her knowing it. She is so deeply in love that she doesnt understand that she is losing herself. Katy explains near the end that she has been in that situation before and made it out. She says no one should be a shell of themselves, everyone is to control THEMSELVES! And if you follow that, you will never lose your "pearl" like she did.
-
Pretty simple!
It's how the man shes in love with keeps her away and won't let her be who she wants to be and she grows over him and manages to get a second chance and tells every girl who is or has gone through it to let them know to not let them take over your true self. ;) -
it about domestic abuse
-
I personally think it's about a girl in an abusive relationship
"there's a way out there's a way out"
Is saying that you can get help and what not
Just any man who is holding a girl back -
I heard it's about teenage pregnancy. I see how that works. This boy is dragging her down, has sex with her. She loves him so much she doesn't care for the consequences, she changes and everything she does is dark. She lashes out at people who tell her different. But when she finds out she's pregnant, she realizes everything and leaves him.
-
Peal has a very obvious but deep meaning. It's about a girl who, even though she doesn't completly realize it, is being tied down by the boy that she loves. They say love is blind, and this song is no exception. She doesn't see that she could be a whole person without him, or she sorta does but doesn't see it possible; because she loves him. Katy perry wrote this as a personal experience with a boy who did the same to her, except in the end, she realized what she needed to do and was able to be her own person without him, "but I woke up, and grew strong, and I can still go on"
-
Kaaay, so it's pretty simple.
It's about a girl who is with a boy who she's in love with but he holds her back from whatever it is she wants to do or be.
At the end, Katy says she's been there and knows what it's like, and not to let anyone hold you down.
