   This song to me feels like whoever wrote this is in a lot of pain. They're in agony, and they feel lost. They don't know what is real and they've been hurt over and over again. The person they're talking about is someone they love, someone they want to let in but they're hesitant due to these past issues but when this person is around and they're with this person their pain just fades and the world stops. For me it's a love song.

   I believe this song is about someone who does not trust herself with anyone. She loves a special someone, but is afraid that this person will only see her bad side (don't tear me down for all i need, make my heart a better place). She says that she has a need to stay on the edge of light and dark and she wants that person to bring her back. She is in pain but at the same time she does not want to let go of that darker path. She asks him to look past that darker side and find that good side (don't tear it down, what's left of me). One of the best songs by Within Temptation.

   this song means to me that you have a lot of pain in your life and you need someone to hold onto to. That person is the only one who can make you feel better, and you just feel happy with that person. The person in the song is hoping that that special person won't ruin it and will be there for her whenever she needs him.
