Within Temptation: Stand My Ground Meaning
Song Released: 2004
Stand My Ground Lyrics
when you stay low nothing happens
Does it feel right?
Late at night
things I thought I'd put behind me
haunt my mind
I just know there's no escape now
once it's set its eyes on you
but I won't run, have to stare it in the...
-
face your indre demons, or orther wil bring it up and hunrt you.
you have too figth your past and be true too your self
-
in order to be true to yourself in life you must stand your ground.
-
This song is about Civil Rights. When you try to find your place in life, fight for the things you believe in and stand true to who you are no matter how.
-
It's maybe about a breakup I love this kinda remind I guy im in love with who has betrayal and denial me all I want is him to noice me but turn away it still hurts.
-
Sounds like something a survivor of abuse having to face their past.

I recently saw Within Temptation in San Francisco, and Sharon told the audience that it was written in response to the things that were going on in 2004. For me, it's about standing up for what you believe in even though it might go against the norm. If you don't speak up, someone else will.

Personally, I think that the song represents in staring in the face of your denied past. You can't change it no matter what, but you can change yourself from dealing with it. If you yourself can't stand your ground in accepting it, then someone else will bring it up to haunt you.
The first couple verses strike me as if someone they trusted or had confided in didn't help them at all with overcoming ther past. Maybe they're the reason they now have to 'face it' and 'stop denying it' before it haunts them forever.
Not knowing too much about the band myself, but I can say it brings strength to deal with the demons of your past or the 'skeletons in the closet'.
