Within Temptation: Somewhere Meaning

Album cover for Somewhere album cover

Somewhere Lyrics

Lost in the darkness
Hoping for a sign
Instead there’s only silence
Can’t you hear my screams?

Never stop hoping
Need to know where you are
But one thing’s for sure
You’re always in my heart

I’ll find you somewhere
I’ll keep on...

To me this is definitely about someone most probably a mother with a missing loved one. Because “never stop hoping, need to know where you are” a mother never stops the hope and they need to know where their loved one is “but one things for sure, you’re always in my heart” and until they know where their loved one is they are always in their heart “I’ll find you somewhere, I’ll keep on trying until my dying day” which is also what a mother would do never stop looking till the day she dies.

This could mean however you feel when you listen to it but to many of the lyrics scream like a missing person too me.

This song is so similar to their song memories. It reminds me of losing someone special. The pain in the lyrics is evident. I feel like this is about someone who is lost, or someone who has died.

It reminds me of a parent who’s child has been abducted, you want desperately to find the child alive but there’s a part of you that wonders if the child would be better of dead than having to be hurt by whoever took them. Either way the parent needs to know what happened to eventually find peace.

This song reminds me of when I was in the third grade and my younger sisters were taken away by the state. I always wondered what happened to them, was worried if they were in a good home. I always told myself I would find them. 20 years later, after pouring my heart out to God, I found them online. I didn't even know their adopted name. This was just another answered prayer. I know a lot of people pray and they don't get their prayers answered. But when you read the bible, and follow what it says in the new testament, God answers the Christians prayer. I have journals and journals of answered prayers. Following the New Testament is a whole new world that cannot be explained to be understood, you can only see for yourself.

The words are so powerful, and the certainty that the search will continue until the end of life is so absolute, that it can only be a parent who lost a child.

In my opinion the song is about a parent looking for their lost child or wants to know what happened to said child that is lost, thus searching until they die. Either that or someone searching for someone that is missing or dead but they are unaware and desires closure.

I believe that this song is about losing a loved one and grieving his/her death.

I know probably this is not the interpretation of the song, but it reminds me of how I feel every time an animal of mine just disappears. It's the thing when it never comes back home, and I always remain in question on what happened, always hoping it is still alive somewhere and that maybe I'll find it again some day.

I think this song somehow relates to their song "Memories". Both songs have similar intro at the very beginning..

And the lyrics also sounded like a continuous story. I'm not sure which is the first part actually, but I think it's Memories, then "the story" continues to Somewhere..

In Memories, she's talking about her lost lover. Maybe he left her for a job or else, maybe he left her because they broke up, maybe she had this secret love to him and kept it still in heart until years later along with other memories, or maybe he's already dead. Whatever it was actually, it's about her remembering that long lost love..

Then in Somewhere, she's starting to feel something wrong happened toward him and she can't take it anymore. She needs to know where he is now, what he's doing, how he's now, and else. So she can make sure if that "bad feeling about something wrong" really happened to him or not. She still care so much to him somehow. Like.. he's everything to her, all that is in her mind and heart through the years, even if he didn't really care about her, he didn't think about her as much as she did.

    So my conclusion is:
Memories : she lost her love, and can only remember the memories about him.
Somewhere : she's starting to miss him and worry about him and wants to find him to make sure he's okay.

    Well, that's just my interpretation.
And this song kinda personal to me too, because I truly feel what's in this song.

    Within Temptation is amazing!!

I think this song is about a person who is in love with someone, and this person left them for some reason. Now the singer is trying to find him. Either that, or the singer's love is lost and far away from her and she trying to find him again. Something bad may have happened to him. There is a sense of desperation in the singer's voice. She is absolutely needs to find her love.
