Within Temptation: Empty Eyes Meaning
Empty Eyes Lyrics
You pretend to make up
You lay out your case like the enemy
But all that you got through dirty white lies
You find the damned correct way of blaming me for your crimes
Won't you talk to me
Don't walk or run...

The "you" in this story is about the person's past. It is about a person who can not accept its own past and is unable to face the consequences or has trouble understanding his/her own past.
You could also make a case for dementia and the hardships that causes for the person and the people around him/her. -
It's a perfect description of what it's like to be in a relationship with someone with borderline personality disorder. The "empty eyes" or darkened eyes is a classic BPD trait, along with reversing who did what, pretending to make up, and constant lies.

Yes torn from a loving relationship and was controlled so much that they themself started to be empty trying to please the controller. But they want to be free to trust again. That is the ghost part pulling them back from feeling and loving again. It is tragic and painful about people with no emotion except for themselves and how you tried to make them happy but couldnt. It broke their own heart and they need to go on but until the controller tells the truth they are empty but because there was never truth for real love only empty love empty eyes. Narcissistic to extreme when there is only self love allowed.
-
The song is talking about a very strong betrayal. The singer feels like the betrayer has been manipulating for a very long time. Torn away from this strong bond, the singer is lost for answers, and just wants the person who lied to her to just tell the truth.
-
This song has been driving me nuts, because all I can figure out from it is that I think it's about a boy who blames the singer for everything that goes wrong. But I don't understand how the chorus fits in with that.
