In this song is about a person that is insecure and feels powerless and empty. The loser is projecting his fears onto their lover, and loved ones (he's a loser). Obviously the loser is unsure of their own future since it cannot grasp a control to direct their own fate. To pick failure is better therefore there is no need to face itself with disappointments; in the song, "There is no escaping Because my fate is horror and doom" that's how losers really think. (They refuse the real picture of reality, and avoid self confrontations).

Therefore to fill in the void, anger and rage replaces it, since acting out with rage and anger on a loved one, gives this loser a false sense of authority and control.

When a person has no control but acts in-controlled using anger and rage; these emotions takes over the owner instead, in the song singing, "My strength, it is fading
    I have to give in."

"Hold down your head now, just let me pass by," is telling the lover to walk on eggshells since this loser feels so sensitive. "Don't feed my fear
If you don't want it out," where any situation can go sour and this loser person is scared to death of feeling powerless and afraid, and when pushed to the edge, being challenged, it will strike out and protect all that he's got.
