Serpentine Lyrics

See the dogs come running
Smelling blood now
To an open sore
On a parasite
Countless hearts have fallen
Hard to number
Damnations whore
Is looking for a victim tonight

With an angry soul
And a wicked design
Your will cannot...

It's clearly referring to a female who has a history of using her sexuality to seduce and manipulate men, thus condemning them to the fate of a broken heart, or one of torn emotions. This woman feeds on the sadistic rush she gets from using and abusing men. In essence, she is a cold, sadistic, heartless bitch. Must as she has done it to countless other men, she is now doing the same thing to him, and he feels powerless to stop it. He was blinded by her beauty and her reassuring words, which he realizes now we're all lies. This woman will stop at nothing to get what she wants....a sick and twisted revenge on men( perhaps out of spite, or purely out of her own sick sort of amusement).
Now that he finally sees her for who she truly is, he has evil thoughts, and is considering hurting her physically, but deep down, he knows he's s good person and could never do it, so he feels torn and deeply distraught. He laments that she could be so cold and sinister.

Such a great song. By far my favorite of theirs, especially since I can completely relate. I know a woman who is exactly like this. She manipulated me to no end and it gives me chills when I hear this song. It totally reminds me of what she did to me.

This song is based on the counter culture and drug use people come across in life. I'm speaking of self experience See the dogs come running smelling blood now on the open sore of the parasite. Addict are attracted to drugs as a dog to blood. The parasite is the drug of choice. Drug addicts take drugs due to their lack of being able to deal with circumstances in life there for " i can not endure.....".

Drugs let you feel satisfied as hot as light. But you feel cold even when it tell you it will be alright.

The second chorus confirms the addicts relentless voyage into becoming an addict just because of experimenting

A song about a real world version of a succubbus. This song is about a woman who manipulates men and tells them its ok. But in the meantime she is just abusing these men sexually to get revenge that she thinks they deserve. Look at the lyrics and you will see it...

In the opinion of Anonymous, Serpentine is about rebelling against someone who you thought was good. That you need to pay attention to what people are like; get subtle clues to judge their character. Or you might end up "with your heart torn away."

I got two general impressions of the song, hearing it for the first time. When David sings about the dogs coming to the smell of blood, I thought paparazzi. About his life as a celebrate and how it can be a living hell.

But when he gets into the chorus, I get more of someone he trusted manipulating him on the sly, giving him false hope and motivation only to rip it out from under him. "Serpentine" is defined as untrustworthy and cunning, as a snake is conventionally thought to be.

Maybe a lover or a close friend used and betrayed him.

It basically speaks of a succubus, a demonic creature that uses its sexuality to prey on men.
